This weekend was some TOUGH BALL. overall, the team did what was asked and should be proud of how hard they fought against some very tough opponents and adjusted to new roles and a new format.
No doubt everyone wants to play. No doubt they all would like to be starters. This weekend, we asked some to contribute as subs and stay ready to work. Staying focused on the games, from inside the dugout, and being ready to jump in at a moments notice and go do a job is tough, but it is also a very necessary aspect of playing at this level. It takes grit. It takes loyalty to game and team and it takes a positive attitude to take these opportunities.
For those reasons, our DIRTY DUCKS of the weekend go, not to our starters, but to two of our players who played bracket as subs. Always ready. Always IN the games. They cheered, they supported and , when called upon, they got to work.
#22, Darla Wheeler, collected 5 rbis on the weekend and played half the games as a sub. This kid was willing to step in there and drive one in, even when it meant she was sacrificing herself.
#12- Kylie Ouderkirk - .887 FCPT and played half the games as a non starting sub. Coming away with two very key outs late in a very tough game.
Neither asked why they weren’t starting. Neither took their roles and punishment. Both stayed engaged and went to work when they were NEEDED.
Tough weekend of HARD BALL played. Thank you for your dedication to your team!
SUBS MATTER!!
