Park City keeps delivering great family-friendly ideas.
Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History (FOSMMH), an all-volunteer committee of the Park City Historical Society & Museum, just launched a new interactive website dedicated to the Park City Historic Mine Route.

The 7-mile, self-guided, GPS-audio guide-enabled hiking and biking loop, links 24 historic mining sites throughout Park City, opens on Miners Day (if you were wondering that's Sept. 7th)

More than a hiking or biking route, the Park City Historic Mine Route will function as an open-air museum, where visitors will encounter historic structures, mine sites, and cultural landmarks that tell the story of the miners, families, immigrants, entrepreneurs, and community members who helped build Park City. To deepen the educational experience, the route will incorporate a free audio guide using the TravelStorys™ app, which uses GPS technology to trigger narrated stories, archival photographs, and historic interpretation as users approach key landmarks.

The new website, hmr.parkcityhistory.org, is a convenient basecamp for the Park City Historic Mine Route with links to the trail’s free audio guide, hike and bike options, maps, historic information, FAQs, photos, and more.

Hike & Bike Options

A convenient “Routes at a Glance” section compares mileage, difficulty, estimated time, and elevation gain for four options to experience the Park City Historic Mine Route, which include:

- Hike the Full HMR Loop

- Bike the Full HMR Loop

- Lift Up, Empire Canyon Descent

- Empire Canyon Out & Back


For each option, the website includes detailed, printable directions, a map, and a GPX file that hikers and bikers can upload to the trail app of their choice, such as AllTrails, Strava, Trailforks, or Gaia GPS to track their journey.

Have you heard? South America’s leading ski destination, has announced an extension of its 2026 season to Oct. 11, pushing back its original Sept. 29 closing date by two weeks.

Thanks to its biggest snowfall in 50 years, accumulating over 25 feet of snow since July 14, the resort is offering visitors discounts on the last season skiing. If you've got the chance to go, don't sleep on this opportunity!

✈️ BOSTON SKI MOMS: Jackson Hole just became much easier to reach!

United Airlines is launching the first nonstop service between Boston Logan and Jackson Hole for the 2026–27 ski season. For families traveling with kids, ski boots, helmets and all the other winter gear, eliminating a connection is a BIG win.

The new Saturday flights will operate from February 13 through March 20, 2027:

🏔️ Boston to Jackson Hole: 10:20 a.m.–1:45 p.m.
🏠 Jackson Hole to Boston: 12:40 p.m.–7:30 p.m.

There’s also a fantastic arrival-day perk: Guests flying the new route can receive a complimentary lift ticket and demo package—including skis, boots and poles—for the day they arrive. Just bring a valid boarding pass or proof of purchase to Jackson Hole Sports in Teton Village.

You can leave Boston in the morning and arrive in Jackson Hole that afternoon—no connection required!

Indy Pass announced need they are adding 50+ new resorts, and as a result, the Indy Pass will surpass 300+ ski areas for the 26/27 season.

They will release the new resorts in batches over the next week, with a final (and big) announcement on Tuesday, September 8th.

These new resorts will give them the capacity to sell a limited number of additional passes, and they will be working from the waitlist.

If you are on the waitlist, please keep an eye out for an email and text from them. If you, or someone you know, still needs an Indy Pass for this year, signing up for the waitlist is still the best bet. If any inventory remains, they’ll have a very short public sale on Sept. 8.

XC Coaching grants available! The National Nordic Foundation "Trail to Gold Applications" are open until September 4th.

The program provides talented women coaches with the opportunity to join the US Ski Team World Cup staff for a two-week, hands-on experience. Coaches gain firsthand experience in coaching, waxing, testing, and working alongside the world’s best athletes and coaches.

In 2023, NNF added the Trail to Gold to its ongoing funding commitments, ensuring support for the grant in successive seasons. Through this continued investment, we aim to support not only the development of American women coaches, but also the skiers they mentor, support, and inspire across the sport.

🚜 This excavator is helping Brian Head Resort get ready for ski season—and families could be among the biggest winners!

The southern Utah resort is targeting a November 6 opening for the 2026–27 season, weather permitting. Nearly $1 million in snowmaking improvements will allow crews to run up to 24 snow guns at once on Navajo Mountain, helping them open beginner terrain near the Kids Camp Conveyor and Pioneer lift faster.

More family-friendly news:

🎿 Kids ages 12 and younger ski FREE all season with the Power Kids Pass—no additional purchase and no blackout dates.

🎟️ Advance-purchase lift tickets start at just $9 on select dates, including the planned November 6 opening day.

📲 New reloadable RFID cards and self-service pickup kiosks will help families skip the ticket-window line and get on the snow faster.

Brian Head Resort was the first Utah ski area to open last season, so we’ll be watching to see if they can do it again!
