Love this for the softball players of West Michigan! Proud to be a part of an organization that is on board with this change!
We all know that tryout season can be stressful. It makes it all the more stressful when the tryout season continually gets earlier and earlier, making its way into the current season being played. In talking with many organizations around West Michigan, we agreed to the need to get back to what is right for these girls and families. We need to stop making them choose to abandon commitments to a team when they are not even done with the season they are in. Players leave their teams before they are finished with their season and it is causing chaos, or, the talk of who is going where alone creates friction while the team is still in their current season. We do not believe in pressuring or forcing decisions early. College coaches have also talked about the negative effects it can have in recruiting in following players they are interested in. Diamonds Softball is proud to stand up with so many others to make the right move and start tryouts no earlier than August 1. Who is helping set an example for these players if the organizations they play for cannot be the example?
On top of that, many baseball teams have been discussing a start date of around July 26th in order to combat the earlier tryouts for baseball as well. Diamonds baseball is proud to join into that initiative too.
