At LWIA we work hard to maintain a constructive balance between fun and hard work.

We want your child to love the water...

But then we want them to move past a basic love of the water into a place of understanding the water.

What does that look like?

πŸ…An acute awareness of the water line rising on their cheek that prompts their mouth and airway to close before their mouth is submerged.

πŸ…A controlled rollback to rest and breathe in their float when their chosen destination is too far to reach because they aren't rushed or panicked.

πŸ…An independent turn to reach and re-grab the wall when they've lost their handhold because they know safety is an arm's reach away.

πŸ…A sustained float so comfortable they're able to recite their favorite colors or tell you about their family dog because they know lifting their chin an inch or taking a deep breath is all they need for the water to continue to hold them.

πŸ…An extended face-in swim that concludes without gasping or coughs because they've practiced and lengthened their breath control.

Water competency is more than simply moving through the water. It's understanding our power in the water to maintain control and control isn't flashy. It's subtle. It's consistent. It's practiced.

13 months, 8 years, or 80 years-- safe swim is a lifelong endeavor. Start early, practice often and watch your children flourish!

"Wait... your lessons are only 10 minutes long?"

The answer is yes. For children under 5 years old, our lessons are just 10 minutes a day, Monday through Thursday, for six weeks.

You may be thinking... "I'm not making that drive four times a week for only 10 minutes-- what can my child really learn in just 10 minutes?"

The truth is: for young children, shorter lessons are often more effective than longer ones.

Young children learn best through repetition, consistency, and focused instruction. Their attention spans are short, and once they become tired, cold, distracted, or overwhelmed, learning slows down dramatically.

Our goal is to maximize learning during the time when a child is most engaged and receptive.

Those 10 minutes are packed with purposeful instruction, skill development, and confidence building.

The science of motor learning shows that frequent repetition helps children build stronger neural pathways and retain skills more effectively. By practicing the same skills consistently throughout the week, children develop muscle memory and confidence much faster than many parents expect.

Over six weeks, those "short" lessons add up to 24 individualized sessions focused on water safety and swimming skills tailor to your unique child.

The result?

Children who become more confident, more comfortable in the water, and develop critical water safety skills that could one day save their lives.

Short lessons. Consistent practice. Big results.

SwimPrep, LLC we borrowed a lot of this post from you-- thank you for being a leader in educating families about the why behind what we do! Clarity is kindness and you love your families so well. We love learning from you!

*The child in this video is 2.5 years old and able to maintain breath control, find the surface, and roll into a face-up back float to rest and breathe before flipping over to continue his swim.

Most parents think swim lessons are just about preventing drowning. But research shows toddlers who start swimming early get 88% drowning protection PLUS something unexpected: enhanced brain development. Every stroke and kick creates cross-lateral movement that forces both sides of the brain to work together, literally wiring neural pathways for reading, focus, emotional control, and language skills.

When your child moves through water, they're doing more than learning to float. They're developing better balance, quicker problem-solving abilities, and stronger motor skills than kids who don't swim. The resistance of water challenges their body awareness and posture while building core strength. Studies consistently show early swimmers outperform their peers in cognitive tasks that require bilateral brain coordination.

Here's the hidden gem: floating and breath control naturally teach emotional regulation. When toddlers learn to stay calm in water and control their breathing, they're building real-world skills for handling stress and trying again when things get tough. Early swim lessons leverage your child's natural brain plasticity and lower fear levels, making skill acquisition easier and more confident. You're not just enrolling them in another activity - you're investing in their safety, cognitive development, and emotional resilience all at once.

"Buckle up... Look both ways... Wear a helmet... Use an oven mit..." Parents teach safe practices getting in the car, crossing a busy street, riding a bike, and helping in the kitchen. Safe practices exist not because we're paranoid, but because accidents and injuries happen and kids can be impulsive.

Water play is no different. Something as simple as looking both ways could keep them from getting hit by a car. In the same way, something as simple as learning to get to and maintain an independent float could keep them from drowning. We teach this skill along with breath control, flipping over to swim face-in, kicking, and more!

We're certified. We care. We teach kids how to enjoy the water...safely!

Mamas, even if your babies are growing up to be cowboys, they should still learn how to be safe in the water! ...Why? ⏬

⏩ Statistics show that males account for nearly 80% of all drownings.

⏩ 3 in 4 child drownings are boys.

Numbers like this make our stomachs ache and heads shake.

πŸ’‘Boys often think they're invincible and we tend to speak that truth over them to encourage strength and resilience. But all boy mamas know-- it takes a lot of training for a daring little guy to become a resilient man.

⏩ Little boys need to consistently practice skills like: self-control, patience, listening, working hard, and learning from trusted authority in order to keep themselves safe and grow into wise men.

πŸ’ͺWe work on all of those skills in the water, every day.

Let your babies grow up to be cowboys, but also safe swimmers, too!
