Sometimes, a little friendly competition is the perfect way to put your horsemanship to the test!

Thursday evening, two of our students came out to tackle a larger obstacle course, focusing on good horsemanship, balance, and completing each obstacle correctly. Speed wasn't the goal. As beginner riders, they're still developing their balance and learning how to best influence their horses without relying on their hands.

To wrap things up, we held a little friendly ribbon competition! Working together, the students had to carry a ribbon from one end of the arena to the other without breaking it or dropping it. A fun way to challenge their control, coordination, and communication.

The focus of the evening was control and balance, learning that slow and steady wins the race. As their skills develop, we'll gradually introduce more speed, but learning to be correct, balanced, and kind riders always comes first.

A solid foundation builds confident, safe, and reliable riders who are prepared to handle whatever challenges come their way!

From a feral, sunburnt little thing who was unsure and scared of just about everything… to a stunning white pony being tacked at liberty at an event by a green rider. What a transformation for Remedy.

And honestly, I don't think it can be overstated just how BIG this is for him.

Over the last two weeks, Remedy spent four days camping and trail riding, came home for only four days, and then headed off to an event in Indiana for another four days. New places, new environments, new experiences, crowds, activity, and all the chaos that comes with being at an event—and he took it all in stride.

This is a pony who started out nervous, inexperienced, and unsure of the world around him. Yet he was able to walk into a completely new environment, settle in, and trust his training without needing to be lunged to get the sillies out or have a trainer ride him first.

That's what makes this so rewarding and satisfying. The goal was never to make him tolerate these things. The goal was to give him the confidence, understanding, and foundation to handle them and regulate himself.

He still needs a LOT more miles. He needs more confidence, more exposure, and plenty more time to grow into the horse he's capable of becoming. But the transformation we've seen already is incredible.

Remedy is proof of what patient, thoughtful training can do. And if this is where he's at now, just imagine where we go from here.

The sky is the limit for this little guy—and we're going to find out just what he can do.
