🏁 Bando and UCAR Race Recap 8/29 🏁
What a great night at the track!! Let’s start with Dallas in his bandolero…
Dallas ran first practice and had some throttle trouble that we got sorted out. He qualified with a decent time and started P5. He and his buddies spent some time going over the best lines on the track and they gave him some extra words of encouragement, which really paid off.
Feature race: This boy dug deep and pushed himself hard. The starts are still his biggest battle, but he’s definitely improving. We watched his lap times drop throughout the race. His previous best lap time was 22.2. Y’all… he dropped it all the way down to 21.8!!! He’s wanted to see that 21 so badly and just hasn’t quite gotten there UNTIL NOW. This was huge and we were all so thrilled with these results. Dallas finished 5th but felt like he won big time. Congrats to Tuggie on his win! Well deserved! All the boys drove their hearts out last night and we’re so proud of all of them. That was a great race to watch.
Now onto the UCAR race…
I (not Steve 🤣) was driving Steve’s car. Remember three races ago I practiced, qualified and then the car quit before the race. We finally got that worked out so this was the first time I was actually racing his car. Practice wasn’t terrible. I got a feel for the super loose car, which isn’t what I’m used to. My qualifying laps were exactly what I hoped for. I knew I couldn’t touch the times ahead of me YET, so I started P11.
When I am sitting in the car ready to go, I’m usually talking to myself. Last night was all, “I get to do this. I actually get to do THIS.” For years I said I wanted a race car and never actually thought I would do it. I was so excited to get back on the track. On the start, I held my position and focused on staying with the cars ahead of me. I was there longer than I thought I would be and that felt so good. As the race went on, I got so much more comfortable with the handling of the car and had soooo much fun. I even lapped some cars for the first time ever. I finished 11th and the first thing I said to my spotters was, “That was the most fun I have ever had out here!!!!” I’m already counting down until I can get back in that car.
It felt so good for all of us to end the night the way we did. We are off this coming weekend, but bandoleros and UCARs are racing on September 12.
