Hello, Friends, we hosted our first cleanup of the 2026 season at Hartig Park & Wildlife Reserve this past Saturday, April 25, 2026.
We had several participants show up and so, we divided the group to tackle the river banks.
A few hiked out on foot filling up green, plastic bags and others launched out in their kayaks with trash pickers, buckets and paddle in hand. Talk about a balancing act! ⚖️
Hartig Park was as pristine as ever, and didn't need any help with picking up trash or debris to begin with, but we did seize the opportunity to use their Kayak/Canoe launch area. 🛶
Together we collected: 🚮
-several plastic bags of trash (I forgot to count them!)
-ball/horse toy
-2 large pieces of styrofoam board
-treated wood with rusty nails
-bottles/cans
-plastic/debris/broken buckets
-stainless bucket (I kept this one)
-paper products/baby wipes 🤢
We hope to partner with other locations in the future to host additional clean up days. 🛞
Big shout out to Hartig Park & Wildlife Reserve, Gallatin County Emergency Management-Kentucky, Pop's Landing, Papaw Ronnie, Mom and all the individuals that made this event happen. Thank you for showing up and showing out! 🏆
Hosting community events to pick up trash together, encourages the improvement of the environment by removing pollutants, protecting wildlife, and helping to lower hazardous chemicals from breaking down into soil and water. Properly disposing of trash helps keep waterways cleaner, improves public health and air quality, and continues to foster community connection and awareness. 🌍
