The relationship between the human spine and the chair can be quite complicated and, let's be honest... painful.
The human spine has natural lordotic and kyphotic curvatures in it (unless there are malformations from trauma or congenital defects) that provide shock absorption. Regarding sitting posture specifically, it is important to maintain those curvatures in the cervical (neck), thoracic (mid back), and lumbar (lower back) regions. In the images provided, the spine model is displaying a neutral vs non-neutral lumbar spine.
The non-neutral position can lead to lower back pain, intervertebral disc issues, sciatica, hip pain, weak lumbopelvic hip complex musculature, and more.
