Redbirds

Redbirds Norlanco Redbirds A group of players learned how to become champions while acquiring memories that will last a lifetime. Great men every one.

They won back-to-back Lancaster Youth Baseball League Championships, a New Era Championship, and Ripken Championships...but they all are gentlemen who understand that honor is better than honors. Many of the boys went on to excel in other sports, many excelled in the classroom, some are playing either baseball or another sport in college, one is flying planes (atta boy Maddy), and one was drafted in the second round by the Kansas City Royals (atta boy Cam)...but we love them all!!!

Former Redbirds are a step closer to entering a team into the Quad County Optimist League for the 2014 season. The league will be voting in new teams in January; as soon as the news is official, we'll let you know. The team will be called the Norlanco Nine and will play their home games where the Redbirds train (an outfield fence will be installed this fall). Over twenty players already expressed an interest in playing. The roster will be capped at 25 players. Based on the interest already expressed in the team, we expect the team will be competing for the championship in year one! :) The logo for the hats can be seen in the photos section. Go get 'em Nine!!!

NORLANCO TWILIGHT TEAM: We've been asked to explore the feasibility of creating a Norlanco twilight team to participate in the Quad County Optimist Baseball League ) http://www.quadcountybaseball.net/).

We need former Redbirds to reach out to competent players to gauge interest. If you want to play for this team, please express your interest by adding your name to the comment section below. We will only move forward if the roster is of sufficient size to enable some players to commit only on a limited basis; we know schedules are very tight and many players would not be able to attend all or most of the games. We expect a team of former Redbird players (and competent players they've met in their travels) would be very competitive in this league. Spread the word and let's see what type of interest there is for such a team. We need to gauge interest quickly so please don't delay. Thanks in advance for spreading the word to potential players.

We didn't know this was captured on film. First game of the Sports at the Beach tourney. The team is down 4 runs in their last trip to the plate. We'll let the players tell the story....but it's definitely trying to break into the Redbird all-time top ten moments. :)

The Redbirds soared at the Sports at the Beach tournament, July 26-28, earning the first seed after pool play, going 4-0, and scaring the tournament record for most bombs hit. They fell in the semi-finals to a very solid defensive squad who threw a crafty pitcher. They went 5-1 for the tournament, had a dramatic come from behind win in the first game with two grand slams and a walk off jack, learned that good pitching and defense is what wins championships, and it appeared they had a great time along the way. Some memorable moments as some of the players hit their first home runs, one player hit his 30th of the year, another had a grand slam and a walk-off jack in the same game, and some great camaraderie throughout. Overall, we believe it was a success.

Attention all Redbirds, young and old! This young man, who is among the most intelligent Redbird baseball players to pass through our system, laid out for a ball today---and we mean he was horizontal---to save a fellow Redbird from getting hit during long toss. During long toss! Yes, they were too close together this morning and Parker knew it and was prepared to do whatever it took to spare his fellow bird from getting hurt. He noticed the player wasn't paying attention and he ran into the next line, laid out horizontally and made the catch before the ball hit the player; it was not unlike what a secret service agent is taught to do when a bullet is fired at a President. His selflessness was a lesson that all of these new Redbird players need to learn if they want to acquire the champion heart. The players before this group did all the little things that lead to success....the secret to winning is in the details...it's about the process. Great players win and great teams win because they sweat all the details. Parker sweated the details today, as he usually does, and he saved a teammate from potentially getting hurt. Hopefully his selflessness will rub off onto the other players. Atta boy Parker.
