Mindset while carrying off-duty or CCW is extremely vital to practice constantly. Have you ever walked into a restaurant and assessed where you should sit based upon the crowd, the exits, location of the kitchen, or bathrooms? How about not walking in between large vehicles (panel vans, etc), vehicles with heavy tinted windows you cannot see in, while at Target or Wal-Mart, or the local mall? Know your surroundings. Be aware of all aspects of your environments. Not all situations will call for you to brandish your weapon and/or fire it. Training doesn't start and end at the range.

Dry fire practice is a great way to improve your techniques and find out what works and what doesn't for YOU personally. There are many techniques out there for you to choose from. Find out what works for you and your mindset. Don't try anything special. Use your own body dynamics and mentality to find out what makes sense so that when you come into a SHTF situation you are able to respond with Power, Accuracy, and Speed.

How much do you train on your pistols? Do you have multiple calibers? Multiple Makes/Models? Each one is different and has different characteristics that can make or break you when you need to perform at your best. Muscle memory doesn't exist. Mental memory is what makes your body react how you train it to when a SHTF situation presents itself and your body goes into Fight, Flight, or Freeze mode!

Train like your life depends on it. Because if you have to use your firearm in a defensive situation ... it does. You literally have the rest of your life to make the right decisions and ensure proper shot placement should the situation call for it.

Let's get some conversation started. What is your favorite method of CCW?

Something that you should be doing regularly is your draw from concealed or other holster. There are a multitude of variations in which you may find yourself. Drawing your weapon while prone, crouched down behind cover, laying flat on your back. You just never know when and where you will need this skill. Remember that PERFECT practice makes perfect! Train Smart!

Remember to train like you fight. Are you going to just stand with your toes on the line and fire peacefully away at some cardboard? Get your heart rate up a wee bit, practice what you think you will need when your life depends on it! Train Smart!

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service. There are many stories as to its actual beginnings, with over two dozen cities and towns laying claim to being the birthplace of Memorial Day. Traditional observance of Memorial day has diminished over the years. Many Americans nowadays have forgotten the meaning and traditions of Memorial Day. At many cemeteries, the graves of the fallen are increasingly ignored, neglected. Most people no longer remember the proper flag etiquette for the day. While there are towns and cities that still hold Memorial Day parades, many have not held a parade in decades. Some people think the day is for honoring any and all dead, and not just those fallen in service to our country.
To help re-educate and remind Americans of the true meaning of Memorial Day, the "National Moment of Remembrance" resolution was passed on Dec 2000 which asks that at 3 p.m. local time, for all Americans "To voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a Moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence or listening to 'Taps."
Please help us in remembering why we have this day to celebrate those heroic few who came before us. GOD bless and keep them.

Thank you, to all of our fellow Sheepdogs! Enjoy this weekend!

As with most American's, the Memorial Day Weekend is cause for celebration, reflection and time with family and friends. I remember many wonderful times, both in the U.S. and other arid and less comfortable places where it was about who I was with and not where I was. We all need to take the time to remember those who came before us serving something larger than themselves. Please do not forget that not all who serve wear a uniform. Those who support the men and women of the military, law enforcement agencies, fire, and EMS (to name a few) deserve our gratitude as well. Our wives, children, Mothers and Fathers stand behind us and willingly sacrifice holidays, birthdays, anniversary's and more. GOD bless all of you, fellow sheepdog's, and your family's on this and every day.

Lets chat a wee bit about shot placement. I really dont think that there are many of you out there that can put a controlled pair into a bad guys melon under duress from 25 feet. I know I cant. Yet. But until then I will go for the center mass shot(s). Dont try to Hollywood your shooting. Take the time to make sure you hit what it is you are aiming for. I like a certain quote, but not sure who it came from (some sources state Bill Jordan or from the movie Wyatt Earp) ..."Speed is fine, but accuracy if FINAL." There is truth to this. Take the time to make it right. Train Smart!!
