Galena Varsity Pirates could not keep pace with Putnam County Varsity Panthers 7-4 on Tuesday.
Putnam County Varsity Panthers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles. Putnam County Varsity Panthers first got on the board when Johnathon Stunkel singled, scoring one run.
Galena Varsity Pirates made the score 3-2 in the top of the fourth after Jacob Loso singled, scoring one run, and Mason Smith doubled, scoring two runs.
Eli King singled down the left field line, which helped Putnam County Varsity Panthers tie the game at three in the bottom of the fourth.
Putnam County Varsity Panthers jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after Maddox Poole singled down the left field line, Carter Hochstatter singled to center field, Wyatt Zellers walked, and Eli King grounded into a double play, each scoring one run.
Maddox Poole earned the win for Putnam County Varsity Panthers. The hurler allowed one hit and one run over three innings, striking out one and walking none. Jacob Loso took the loss for Galena Varsity Pirates. The righty went four innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking one. Kade Zimmerlein stepped on the hill first for Putnam County Varsity Panthers. The pitcher gave up three hits and three runs over four innings, striking out two and walking two.
Mason Smith led Galena Varsity Pirates with two runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The catcher went 2-for-3 on the day. Eli Studtmann stole two bases. Galena Varsity Pirates turned one double play in the game.
