Recap of the 1st Major at Golden Horseshoe

What a fantastic day for 21 golfers who arrived at The Golden Horseshoe for our first Major of the season.
The course was in the best condition we’ve ever seen, and the competition matched the quality of the venue—three of the five flights were decided by playoffs.

The highlight of the day belonged to Brandon Wilson, whose shot on the 7th hole—also the PGA Superstore Hole-in-One Shopping Spree hole—finished just 6 inches from the cup. Even better, the moment was captured on video. Be sure to check it out on YouTube at TheGrint Tour Virginia.

Champ Flight

Winner: Tharen Rice (74)
Tharen led from start to finish. After his only misstep of the day, he immediately bounced back with a birdie and never looked back.

Albatross Flight

Winner: Mike Krantz (84)
Mike made the trip with his family to enjoy Colonial Williamsburg—and left with the flight champion’s trophy after a solid round of 84.

Eagle Flight

Winner: Chris Smith (playoff, 89)
Chris claimed the title in a one-hole playoff against James Cournoyer after both posted rounds of 89.

Birdie Flight

Winner: Oludare “Double O” Ogunmadewa (playoff, 88)
Our second playoff of the day saw Double O edge out Jason Keth on the first extra hole after both shot 88.

Par Flight

Winner: JC Nunez (playoff, 99)
Our third playoff decided the Par Flight. JC defeated Craig Meyer on the first playoff hole after a tight battle all day.

Par 3 Challenge

Winner: Tharen Rice (+1)

🏌️‍♂️ TheGrint Tour Virginia — 2nd Outing Recap at The Golf Club at Mattaponi Springs

Our second outing of the season took us to the beautiful Golf Club at Mattaponi Springs, a true gem just north of Richmond, Virginia. Twenty-one golfers made the trip south on I-95—some traveling more than two hours—for a chance to take on this challenging and scenic layout.

It turned out to be another fantastic day of golf, camaraderie, and competition across all five flights.

🏆 Champ Flight

Winner: Nick Wodzinski
Nick captured his 7th victory in 4 years on TheGrint Tour Virginia! He held off a strong field to secure the win by 2 strokes, adding yet another trophy to his growing collection.

🥇 Albatross Flight

Winner: Dave Arbus
Dave made quick work of the Albatross field, navigating the tough Mattaponi setup with confidence while others struggled to find their rhythm.

🦅 Eagle Flight

Winner: Ravi Syamala
It took two extra holes to decide this one! Ravi edged out Alfred Jones with a clutch par on the 2nd playoff hole, marking his 6th career victory on TheGrint Tour Virginia.

🐦 Birdie Flight

Winner: Thomas Porter
Thomas came out strong and never looked back. Leading by 3 at the turn, he continued his fine play to win by 7 strokes, carding one of the day’s best rounds with an 83.

⛳ Par Flight

Winner: Willie Winfree
In his very first event with TheGrint Tour Virginia, newcomer Willie made a statement with a 4-stroke victory over Peter Rynkiewicz.
Although Peter finished runner-up in his flight, he earned the Overall Low Net title of the day!

Hole #7: Aashish Deshpande — 68 feet (yes, 68 feet!)

Hole #14: JC Nunez — 10’ 5”

🏅 Par 3 Challenge

Winner: Jack McCarthy — Score: -1
Jack played steady across all four par 3s to take home the $130 prize.

Peter Rynkiewicz — Net 70
