I thought this athlete was upset about being late. The real reason broke my heart, and taught us a huge lesson. ❤️👇
This week at Redline, one of my athletes walked in completely devastated. He was late, crying, and totally overwhelmed.
At first glance, you’d think he was just stressed about missing the warm-up. But when I knelt down to talk to him, he told me what actually happened: On the way to class, his mom got pulled over by the police. 🚔
He wasn't upset about the clock. He was terrified. His little nervous system was in absolute overdrive from the stress of that situation.
Instead of rushing him out onto the floor or telling him "it's okay, hurry up," we stopped right there and did a Real-Life Reset Routine:
1️⃣ We took 3 long, deep, slow breaths together to signal to his brain that he was safe.
2️⃣ We focused on calming his heart rate down.
3️⃣ Once he felt grounded, he joined the group for his warm-up.
And you know what? He did absolutely fabulous the rest of the class! 🎉
It's a powerful reminder that our kids carry the stress of the car ride, the school day, or unexpected events right onto the field with them. They don't need a lecture on being late, they need a tool to reset.
💬 I'd love to hear from you: Have you ever had to use a quick reset routine with your kids after a stressful moment? Or do you have questions about how breathwork works for kids? Let me know in the comments!
