What better project could there be than relacing this glove, while watching Michigan win the Senior League Softball World Series! Finally had an opportunity to run a hidden palm lace.

This was a Dark Teal lace job for a glove back in April. Giving this glove some much needed character.

I have always told people around me, but it’s a common shortcut to breaking in gloves. DO NOT have your glove steamed. The combination of intense heat and moisture causes severe, often irreversible, damage. Steam strips natural oils, causing leather to shrink, harden, crack, warp, and discolour. It will also void the warranty of the glove. In short, it will break down the leather. A proper break in will come from the loosening of the fiber structure.

The structure comes from the type of leather you choose.

Cowhide Leather - Heavy leather, fastest break in time, medium quality, short durability.
-Thin leather with a less dense grain (not as tight), from an adult cow.

Steerhide Leather - Heaviest leather, longest break in time, high quality, longest durability.
-Thick leather with a dense grain (tight), from an adult Steer.

Kip Leather - Lighter leather, medium break in time, higher quality, long durability.
-Thin leather with a dense grain (tight), from young cattle.

Japanese Kip Leather - Lightest leather, medium break in time, highest quality, long durability.
-Thin leather with a dense grain (tight), from young cattle. Tanned using traditional Japanese methods for maximum durability, softness, and a 25–30% higher tensile strength than other kip leathers

Finally had a good reason to get this done. My daughter got a new Catcher Mitt, and the break in is insane. I've spent days beating them with a mallet, parking a car on top, and sleeping with the lump under the mattress. Those days are long gone.

This service can range anywhere from $50-$300, depending on where you send it and how long they work on it.

I've currently only worked on my daughter's Mitt, and I am looking for some local gloves. This way I can get instant feedback, and work it a little more if needed when you come to pick it up.

For these first local gloves, I will charge only $50. This will last until I have the technical part down, and I am confident on how long it will take.

Was able to work on this Catchers Mitt. Was able to put the proper lace in the web, this will prevent it from breaking again. Tightened up the ridges on the palm to help trap the ball, and it now supports its own weight. It also looks pretty sharp with the Pink lace.

Finished up this Mark Fidrych Wilson A2146, with new mint laces and clean & conditioned. It went from a loose glove that couldn't support its own weight, to holding a great shape. Let your old glove get a nice makeover, it's a lot cheaper than buying a new one. I can get most lace colors.
