This past Saturday, your Miners got back into the gymnasium after a whole week of no activity, Welcoming the Allegany Campers on Senior Night and taking it down to the wire to come out with a 42-41 win. Recording pins on the night were Ryan Krumpach, Ethan Mauck, Max Kalbaugh, Jared Trainor and Noah McKenzie. Taking forfeits in their weight classes were Val Marchante and Landon Wilson.
Last night they traveled up the mountain to take on Southern where it wasn't quite their night. Recording pins against the rams were Ryan Krumach, Corbin Murphy and Aeron Wilson. Ethan Mauck went out ready to take on an older, equally experienced opponent, but it was decided to forfeit to Ethan rather than to face him.
Tonight the Miners again return to the mat when they will travel to Inwood Wv to take on Musselman and Smithsburg in a tri match. Wrestling is to start at 6pm

The conversations you hear while walking by kids talking in the front bleachers.

A huge thank you to our cheerleaders for stepping up and helping run the TomStrong Duals Tournament this weekend. You walked into the day without fully knowing what to expect, but you didn’t hesitate, quickly learning the computer program, adapting to the fast pace of the competition, and handling everything that was thrown at you.
Your flexibility, focus, and willingness to jump in wherever needed played a major role in keeping the event organized and running smoothly from start to finish. Long hours, constant matches, pressure to stay accurate, and you handled it with professionalism and a great attitude.
Behind-the-scenes help like this often goes unnoticed, but it absolutely matters. We truly could not have pulled off a successful tournament without your efforts. You represented your program and your school extremely well, and we’re grateful for the time, energy, and commitment you gave to support our athletes.
Thank you again for being reliable, adaptable, and team-first. It did not go unnoticed.

Also a huge thank you to all the parents and volunteers. From concessions to hospitality room and everything in between, this event couldn't have happened without each and every one of you. There's a miles long list of folks who stepped up and showed so much support for our Miners. Thank you all.

The TomStrong Duals were a great success all around this past Friday and Saturday. We saw some really good matches with a few surprise upsets. Your Miners took to the mat in each dual and gave their opponents all they could handle. It's very obvious these kids are headed in the right direction. After two days of wrestling, the inaugural Duals came to an end with Erie High School finishing third, Boonsboro coming in second place and The Northern Garrett Huskies taking home the championship trophy up the mountain.
Congratulations to those three programs on a hard fought weekend. Every program competing showed great sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
Plans are already on motion for next year's event. The date has been set, now its time to start expanding and bringing in more competition.
Again, congrats to all teams on a great weekend.

Tomorrow night, your Miners wrestlers head down to Cumberland to take on Alco. Then on Friday they'll be hosting the first TomStrong Duals Tournament beginning at 3pm and continuing into Saturday beginning around 9am. There's a pretty diverse lineup on the schedule where we'll see many different styles of wrestling. Two other local teams will be competing in the duals in Northern Garrett and Allegany, both of which will also have girls competing individually along with Fort Hill. Boonsboro is making the trip west to visit us, Pendleton County will be making a long trip to compete as well as Preston County. Also making a long trip down will be Erie High School from PA . It's geared up to give spectators a good fix of wrestling over the weekend. Come out and support your Miners tomorrow night and then make a weekend out of sitting back and watching some exciting duals.

The Miners took to the mat Tuesday night in their home opener where the FH Sentinels visited the Coal Mine. A night full of aggressive matches from start to finish. With such a good turnout in numbers this year, the crowd was treated to multiple girls and exhibition matches mixed in with their varsity dual. Recording pins on the night in no particular order were Valentina Marchante, Aeron Wilson, Noah McKenzie, Ryan Krumpach, Ethan Mauck, Max Kalbaugh, Corbin Murphy and Jared Trainor. Soul Miller received a forfeit on the night to start off the varsity dual.
The Miners return to the mat on Thursday where they'll travel up the mountain to McHenry to visit the Northern Huskies in a highly anticipated match. They'll then return home on Saturday morning for a makeup tri-match with Williamsport and Francis Scott Key beginning at 11am

On Saturday, the Miners Wrestling team traveled to Cumberland to compete in the FH Super Duals. The team finished the day taking third place with wins over Jefferson and Allegany, in another match against FH, it was an exciting back and forth throughout the dual where the Sentinels were able to sqeak by and escape with a win. Ethan Mauck finished the day with a 4-0 record while taking first place in the 120lb class. Ryan Krumpach and Ivan Stevenson finished second with one loss records in the 113 and 190lb classes respectively. Multiple other Miner wrestlers finished out the day taking third in their respective classes.
In girls action, Valentina Marchante wasted no time in her two matches, recording early pins in both. Addalynne McConnel fought hard against an experienced, yet stubborn opponent, dropping a close one in her class.
The busy part of our season is now upon us, it starts this Tuesday at home where the Miners will look to avenge that close match with the Sentinels when FH visits us at 7pm.

Huge thank you to Jim Rafferty for giving us such awesome action shots throughout the day.

Honor the Legacy. Be TomStrong.
Mountain Ridge Miners Wrestling is proud to host the Tom Strong Duals Tournament on January 16–17, 2026 in Frostburg, Maryland.
This event honors the life and legacy of Tom Patterson, a former Miner wrestler whose strength went far beyond the mat. At just 23 years old, Tom gave his life saving four young men from the swift current of the Missouri River, an act of courage that defines what it means to be TomStrong.
The TomStrong Duals are more than just a tournament. They are about purpose, sacrifice, and carrying on the values of this program long after the final whistle.
Proceeds from the tournament directly support the Mountain Ridge wrestling program, helping ensure this event, and Tom’s legacy — continues for generations.
Thank you to our wrestling community, supporters, and local businesses who make this possible, and a most sincere and huge THANK YOU to Joene Patterson for working tirelessly to ensure this event is successful.

Aggression in wrestling is misunderstood.

Many young wrestlers struggle with it.
They hesitate.
They feel bad being physical.
They don’t want to hurt anyone.
They don’t want to look “mean.”

That’s normal.

But wrestling is not a polite activity.
It is a controlled form of conflict.

Remove aggression and your wrestling falls apart.
Your shots slow down.
Your pressure disappears.
Your opponent feels safe.

And when your opponent feels safe,
you lose.

Aggression is not anger.
It’s not recklessness.
It’s intent.

It’s committing to attacks.
Driving through positions.
Making your opponent carry your weight.
Forcing reactions instead of waiting.

Most kids don’t get this early.
They grow into it.

As confidence increases,
aggression becomes easier.
As technique improves,
aggression becomes safer.

If you’re hesitant now,
you’re not soft.
You’re learning.

But at some point,
you must choose to impose your will.

Because good technique with aggression
beats great technique without it.

And that lesson comes with time on the mat.
