A few months ago I bought a MacGregor Hank Aaron Home Run King glove from the 1970s to fix up. I knew it wasn't gonna be a huge moneymaker, but I had never seen it before and it looked cool so I said "what the heck?"
I cleaned it, conditioned it, dyed it black, salved it, relaced it, and restenciled all the cool markings.
I put it up for sale and it has sat there forever and a day.
This weekend, a man asked if he could drive 90 minutes to pick it up. When he got there and I put the glove in his hands, he started to tear up.
"We didn't have much money growing up so when my dad gave me this glove, it meant the world to me. But then I lost it on the first day and I was devastated. But now...now I've got my childhood glove back. Thank you."
And that right there? Well, that's what it's all about. Because baseball gloves are personal and meaningful and there's one for everyone, no matter how long it takes.
