Boone County P*e Wee Football League (BCPWFL) Cheerleading Program is a program dedicated to providing a safe learning environment for children between the 1st & 8th grades. Commonly, cheerleaders are viewed as a group performing as one unit to elicit a crowd to cheer for their team. As true as this is, the BCPWFL views cheerleaders as much more…
BCPWFL cheerleaders are viewed as athletes; athlet
es that train hard, work hard, and perform hard. They create and promote a tone of sportsmanship, pride, and integrity. Cheerleaders are regarded as the “unofficial” leaders of the fans. They use creativity, pep, and enthusiasm to support their teams. They incorporate high-levels of athleticism with traditional fan guidance. The BCPWFL Cheerleading Program sees every child as a future leader. Therefore, it is a goal of the BCPWFL to provide a safe learning atmosphere for cheerleaders to develop into tomorrow’s leaders through development of athletic skills, leadership, and teamwork. Practices, games, and competitions are three strategies used to grow our young athletes. Performing at these events provides them with a route to develop both intra-personal skills and athleticism. All too often, emphasis is placed only on competitive routines. We, here at BCPWFL, want to capture all aspects of cheerleading. In order to help fulfill this goal, we are happy to announce that the BCPWFL Cheerleading Program will be offering three (3) events to showcase and promote our cheerleader athletes. These events are the BCPWFL CheerFest Competition, the UCA One Up Competition, and the BCPWFL In-Game Challenge. The BCPWFL CheerFest Competition is a long-standing showcase where each team performs a routine. This performance has evolved into a 2 ½ minute routine that highlights their cheering, stunting, dancing, and tumbling abilities. This performance is judged using certified judges and is based off of criteria set forth by the league. This is an intra-league competition. The UCA One Up Competition is an independent competition. This competition allows the BCPWFL cheerleaders to compete against teams outside of the BCPWFL Cheerleading Program. This competition was added to the program in 2013. This, too, focuses on the performance strengths of athletic skill sets in cheering, dancing, tumbling, and stunting. The BCPWFL In-Game Challenge is new starting with the 2015 season. Being a crowd-leader is what cheerleading was founded on. The BCPWFL Cheerleading Program not only wants to showcase teams’ talents, but also wants to bring attention to how hard cheerleaders work each game to support their team(s). Therefore, each team will be judged on their performance during a football game focusing on their abilities in sideline chants, field cheers, and fan leadership. The Game Day Competition was created to showcase what traditional cheerleading is all about - leading the crowd and supporting the team! It is difficult to find one definition that captures the true essence of cheerleading. This is why the BCPWFL Cheerleading Program is focusing on three (3) aspects: performance ability, team support, and crowd leadership. It is through these aspects that the BCPWFL Cheerleading Program wishes to turn our young cheerleaders into successful members of their communities – thus, becoming a true Leader.
