I grew up staring at National Geographics magazine. It was the first place that I saw a photo of a naked woman. It must have been related to some article that was written about an obscure tribe deep in the jungles of somewhere. And as a side benefit of the magazine, they also included amazing maps of everywhere. In my little world of Maitland in Florida, I could only imagine these other places and was intrigued by the lives of others somewhere along the lines of those maps. [ 4,129 more words ]

After 3 years I am closing The Ocean Fandango. I want to thank everyone who has been encouraging and followed along on facebook. I have met some incredible people and lifelong friends through this project, but am unable to sustain it financially. I am moving on to other things and will keep the page here for posts related to those for anyone wanting to follow along on my journey. I have inventory left of surfboards, body boards, fins, artwork and surfwax. With holidays coming up, let me know if you are interested in helping me clear out the closet! Cheers!

When you look at the globe and picture road trips, there are several classics when it comes to surf. The Pacific Coast Highway in California, the entire Pan-American Highway through Mexico and Central America, the west coast of South America, South Africa and of course the east coast of Australia. But when combined with diversity and interesting history, I don't think any of those can compete with the east coast of the USA. [ 2,782 more words ]

Latest post on how to be a cheapskate, save money and travel to surf. I hope you will enjoy it!

Like most Uber drivers, he picked us up and was immediately friendly in broken English. When we got in, he suddenly gained a distinctly serious face and asked "La Perla?" double-checking the stop I was requesting. "Si, La Perla. Conoce Perla Bowl?" I excitedly replied. "El proyecto del artista Chemi Rosado-Seijo?" He looked at me like I was speaking Japanese or some sh*tty kind of Spanish, which I was. [ 1,315 more word ]

You go into the pet store or at least pass it. We all have. And there in cages sit the dogs with the eyes of purity, a window to angels, every sad moment they have experienced being abandoned boring into your soul. I can’t look. I have to keep walking or else I would just get every single one. I get tears just posting the photos on here. [ 1,578 more word ]

Some people plan weeks in advance for a trip. I usually start thinking about stuff a few days before I leave. The reason for this is that the more you think, the more you will bring. And always remember - everywhere you go has stores, markets and junk where it is easy to get what you need. I try to keep everything to one bag only and that bag is a pack. [ 2,575 more words ]
