Raising kids isn’t easy—raising Black and Brown kids in a transracial family? That’s next-level. Culturally Fluent Families is here to help, but we need your support to keep the magic going.

https://donorbox.org/keepourcommunitygrowing

Your support funds our programming, online classes, and the launch of new local city chapters next year. So, dig deep (or shallow, we take all amounts), and let’s keep this mission alive. Because let’s face it—your kid deserves the best, and so do you.

White privilege is not a reference to affluence or generational wealth.

White privilege is social currency that gives the presumptions of innocence, competence, and worth. It is being believed even when you lie. It is being perceived as knowledgeable or an authority on a subject even with no evidence of it. It is having your sense of worth protected at the cost of others' safety. It is being heard, validated, and valued enough that you're reflected and represented as the norm in almost every system.

White privilege is the flipside of racism.

Racism is the lie and belief in the lie that Black people are inferior.

White Privilege is the lie and belief in the lie of white superiority.

Both are so normalized that we accept and act in these ways as unconscious bias.

"Talking to Family and Friends About Race, Privilege, Racism and Raising Black Kids" course is specifically designed for transracial adoptive parents. This course aims to navigate the sensitive and often challenging conversations about race, privilege, racism, and the importance of raising Black children with a strong sense of identity within a supportive extended family environment. Recognizing the pushback that can come from well-meaning but misinformed family members and friends, this course provides the tools and strategies necessary for parents to educate their circles in a way that fosters understanding, acceptance, and allyship.
Key Learning Objectives:
Equip Parents with Conversation Tools: Teach parents how to effectively answer common questions and concerns from family and friends about their focus on racial identity and cultural immersion.
Challenge Colorblind Ideologies: Offer strategies for addressing the limitations of a colorblind approach and the importance of recognizing and celebrating racial differences.
Promote Cultural Immersion: Provide parents with methods to advocate for the necessity of their child's immersion in their own culture, and how to involve family members in this process.
Address Misconceptions: Tackle common misconceptions and fears about raising a child with a strong Black identity within a predominantly white family or community.

You'll explore what babies see, what four-year-olds say, and how schools impact a child's racial identity. You'll also learn about the pivotal ages of 8- 10 and how experiences at that age can shape a child's identity for years to come. Many ask how they can connect their children to their culture. This course answers why the connection is not just a good idea but an imperative.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
Consider race in a more concrete and layered way. Use the tools to talk to children about race and make better-informed decisions on placements, service providers, schools, and even moving to more diverse communities.
The Socialization Cycle:
Where Ideas of Race Come From
Explore Your Racial Identity Construction
What Kids Are Thinking and Saying at Each Age
Why Race Affects Black Children Differently
Your Role in Racial Identity Development
School, Media, and Family Impact
30 Conversation Starters

We are born into a world of set patterns, habits, systems, and beliefs. No matter where we are born and to whom we are born, the simple act of a child being born begins the process of racialization, ethnocentrism, and socialization. You will learn how what children see, hear, and feel is expressed a...
