What a year for Hillcrest Girls Basketball!

Under Head Coach Hannah Clark, the Comets delivered the most successful season in program history, recording the most wins ever, earning the first State Tournament appearance in school history, and finishing 4th in Class A.

Hillcrest opened the state tournament with a commanding 83–55 win over NRHEG, battled top-ranked Mountain Iron-Buhl, and closed the weekend with a fourth-place finish after a hard-fought game against Central Minnesota Christian.

Along the way, Elin Retzlaff reached 1,000 career points on the floor of Williams Arena and earned All-Tournament Team honors, while Elsa Retzlaff, Elin Retzlaff, and Ella Knutson were named All-Conference, and Aaveah Stender earned Second Team All-Conference recognition.

But the lasting legacy of this team goes beyond the scoreboard. All season long, the Comets made it a habit to pray for every opponent they faced, a reminder that the impact of this team will last far longer than the final buzzer.

A Lasting Impact | Stories from off the court

To our fans: People noticed.
You showed up.
You looked the part.
You sounded the part.
You represented well.
You cheered loud when we were up, and when we were down you got even louder—keeping the energy high, and hyping up our girls!
You were encouraging.
You were respectful.
And when other teams tried to throw taunts your way, you stayed focused on what mattered most: our Comets.
Your presence didn’t go unnoticed. Several adults shared with the Hillcrest community how invested our student section was. One venue’s onsite manager even shared that the Hillcrest student section was the most encouraging and respectful group they saw.
Thank you, Comet Nation, for showing up and representing so well. ❤️🖤🤍☄️🏀

A Lasting Impact | Stories from off the court

The girls entered every arena this week with energy, joy, and a contagious spirit… and yes, it may have also included a speaker 🔈 with music and basketball sunnies 😎‼️

People were instantly drawn to them because of that spirit. The love of Jesus radiated from every single one of them.

Day 1: They met Tisa, who was working the tournament at the ticket gate. She welcomed them to the facility and they gifted her a pair of their FANCY 🏀 sunglasses! She immediately loved the energy our girls brought right off the bus and could tell there was something special about them. Later she shared that when the girls walked in, it was “love at first sight.”
“You don’t see many high school teams with the presence your girls have. They’re easy to fall in love with.”

Tisa wasn’t scheduled to work the rest of the tournament, but on Day 2, there she was—sitting courtside dressed in all red! The girls lit up when they saw her. She pumped them up at halftime and cheered them on the entire game.

Day 3, we traveled to Concordia for our final game. As the stands started to clear, I looked up into the corner—and there sat Tisa with her young son, still cheering on these girls.

She now calls them her "Angel Babies” and wanted all the parents to know they are raising some truly phenomenal young women. Contact information was exchanged, and we’re pretty sure Tisa will be following Hillcrest Academy from here on out. ❤️

What an incredible week for Elin! Yesterday at Williams Arena she reached an amazing milestone—scoring her 1,000th career point. Today, she was named to the ALL TOURNAMENT TEAM!

Way to go, Elin! 👏

Swipe to the last photo ➡️ Sophomore sister Elsa shared that her highlight from the State Tournament was the moment her sister found out she had scored her 1,000th point ❤️

Red Dot Pest Control did it again! 🔴
A huge thank you for providing our team with pre-game and halftime fuel today. The work these girls put in this week was not for the faint of heart—pushing themselves both physically and mentally. Your sponsorship allowed us to give them the nutrition they needed to perform at their best.
We truly appreciate your support. Huge THANK YOU! 🙌
