RAM Racing (Richard Meck Racing, RM Cycle Racing)

RAM Racing (Richard Meck Racing, RM Cycle Racing) Photos and information on bikes I've owned and raced and friends bikes, also any old race pictures I stumble into that are interesting. AHDRA/ECRA/ADBA/AMRA.

Started in 77 dirt drag racing, moved to asphalt in 90. Not active racing since 12. RAM RACING (RICHARD MECK RACING, RM CYCLE RACING)·SATURDAY, JULY 7, 2018·
I’d always been attracted to drag racing, Older Brother started taking me to Cecil County Drag-A-Way when I was about 12. In 77 we went to a dirt drag race in Smyrna DE. I was hooked. I had a little Honda SL 350 kicking around and thought I’d

try that. Didn't do so well. Picked up a hot-rodded Triumph 650. Didn’t do much better. I went back to the business of street bikes, customs, repair and painting. In 86 I was in Laurel DE, a promoter came by telling us about dirt drags at Middleford Speedway (Seaford DE). I had a Triumph 650 with an 800 kit, thought why not? Rough start but I got better. In 88 I went to work for H-D of Seaford DE, we (my time/their money) built a 98” nitro dirt bike. None of us had any experience with nitro, but it worked, we didn’t blow it up, didn’t look like fools. After moving to FL I decided to go asphalt racing. I’d only made a couple asphalt passes before when we put a slick on the HDSD dirt fuel bike. Since it was my money I started with a street class bike. Over the next few years I learned a bunch about machining, clutch set up, all manner of anything related to a gas drag bike including nitrous. Managed to build several bikes, not look like a fool, and race into my 60’s. Quickest passes were 8.67 in the 140’s on a 95” nitrous Twin Cam in a small tire D&G chassis. At this point I’m most likely retired from racing. But you never know.
