3. Show up on 4/18 at 1 PM ready to swap, connect, or just watch the fashion shows
4. Bring a drink or snack to share (optional, but always appreciated 💛)

Last night was our first monthly social at DCD … and wow.

Yes, it takes DJs.
Yes, it takes teachers.
Yes, it takes organizers and a whole team behind the scenes to make it happen.

But let’s be honest.

It wasn’t great because of us.

It was great because you showed up.

You danced with each other.
You invited the new faces in.
You smiled at the ones who just “poked their head in to see.”
You asked beginners to dance.
You tried new things.
You stayed one more song.

That’s what made the night special.

It’s those small moments — the extra turn, the nervous laugh, the “I’ve never done this before,” the courage to step onto the floor anyway — that change everything.

Watching our students grow in confidence…
Watching connections form in real time…
Watching someone try something new and light up when it works (or even when it doesn’t)…

That’s the magic.

We are so proud of this community.
Proud of our students.
Proud of our team.
Proud of the culture we’re building together.

No ego.
No competition.
Just people choosing to live fully and connect.

If last night was month one… we can’t wait to see how this grows.

Leadership is such a weird mirror, isn’t it?

The moment you step into leading a community — whether that’s dance, wellness, business, church, whatever — you’re not just influencing events… you’re shaping energy. Culture. Safety. Tone.

And that requires something deeper than confidence.

It requires kindness. Compassion. Self-evaluation.

Because here’s the uncomfortable truth:

If you choose to lead, you also choose to constantly check your ego.

You have to ask yourself:
• Am I serving the community… or feeding off it?
• Am I building something bigger than me… or protecting my image?
• When things fail, am I honest… or selective about the parts I share?

I’ve been observing how some leaders talk about their wins, their losses, their “haters,” their critics. It’s interesting what gets highlighted. What gets omitted. Who gets blamed.

And then there are the hunters — the ones ready to expose every “evildoer.”

But let’s be real for a second.

None of us are purely light.
None of us are purely dark.

We’ve all done things we’re proud of.
And we’ve all made choices that benefited us while hurting someone else.

Leadership isn’t about pretending you’re the hero in every story.
It’s about having the humility to admit when you weren’t.

So before we join a fight…
Before we grab a torch…
Before we position ourselves as the righteous ones…

Ask yourself:

What part do you want to play in this?

Do you want to escalate?
Or elevate?

Do you want to destroy?
Or develop?

Do you want to protect your pride?
Or protect your people?

Because the impact you create will outlive the argument.

And communities don’t grow through ego battles.
They grow through accountability, reflection, and compassion.

Lead with light.
Acknowledge your dark.
And choose your impact wisely.

It happens when you choose to put yourself in rooms, classes, and communities that stretch you 🌱

This video is from a Brazilian Zouk class at Interfusion with two of our favorite teachers, Bruno & Raiza. We continue to train with them whenever we get the chance because of who they are just as much as how they teach.

They are a loving couple, incredible artists, and beautiful parents to their baby boy, Luca. Their care for each other, their family, and their students shows up in every class—whether it’s online or in person.

We love their teaching because it’s intentional, clear, and human. They’ve helped us grow so much as dancers over the past year, and they constantly remind us that learning is a lifelong practice.

If you’re looking to grow—on and off the dance floor—put yourself in spaces like this. Learn from teachers who lead with skill and heart.
