Hi All,
Lots of changes and updates....
Steak NightSteak Night is NEXT THURSDAY, DECEMBER 19TH. Sorry. I thought it was a week earlier. We will be raising money for the Persons. I have no new news regarding Victor's condition other than he has a few surgeries scheduled this week. He is still induced in a coma. If you want to help, see my FB page for info on the MealTrain and ways you can help or share the news.
Winter Games are coming. Get those snow pants out or add them to Santa's wish list. I need to know no later than THIS THURSDAY DECEMBER 12TH if you are planning on attending.
About Winter Games. January 13th & 14th Winter Games is a non qualifying sporting event for winter games. Our team does snowshoe. Athletes will have a chance to practice prior to competition. We also have snowshoes w/ our team if we ever get the weather on a practice night... we'll bring them out.
This is a FUN event. It's usually THE favorite. SO Iowa rents out the entire Grand Harbor Resort for this event. Opening Ceremonies and banquet will be held at the Grand River Event Center on Monday evening. The pool party is on Tuesday evening. I do not know when snowshoe is but will try to find out for those of you that are coming up for a day. Also, all competition events are at Sundown this year.
All athletes will get room/food free. They must be accompanied by a registered Class A volunteer(s). They will also get their room/food free. To register to become a Class A Volunteer, use the following link. It's all online. You will need to be registered by the end of the year, not prior to registrations.https://www.soiowa.org/get-involved/class-a-volunteers/
Most schools allow SO athletes to compete w/o having it count against them. Please make sure you check w/ your schools.
AND DANCE/CHEERLEADING IS NEW THIS YEAR!!! The music will be done soon and we are already working on our routine. If you want to join the dance squad, please make sure you make the practices in Mt Pleasant (Mondays at 5:15) or Fairfield (Thursdays at 5:30).
We will be having a circus theme w/ the Greatest Show & This is Me as our main songs. It will be EPIC!! (Once we have our routine down, Heidi Bowman, head dance/cheer coach at FHS will visit and give us some pointers.). We'll also be providing all dancers a video and their poms so they can practice at home.
Dance/Cheerleading is a non qualifier. However, if you get first place in Basketball at Regionals in February, you will need to make the choice which you want to do at Spring Classic. (Same goes to Power Lifting which is also a non qualifier.)
Regarding Basketball. We are in full force with practice. You guys are doing amazing!! Even if you plan on dancing or powerlifting, we encourage you to come to Regionals and show your BB skills. Fairfield is hosting it and we like to represent! It's also one of the few times a competition is close to home so your relatives can come watch.
I will be putting a new order in for shirts next week. If you need fan shirts or an extra athlete shirt, please get the info to me this week. All checks should be made out to SO Iowa.
The Pick-A-Date fundraiser will be hitting your hands at the next week's practice. This is not required but there are great prizes like customized SEIAFM duffle bags and perhaps even team jackets....and more when you complete it. More info at next week's practice.
Please feel free to email, call, msg or text me if you have any questions. Thank you all 'Mallow Family.
