Using a water bladder is so convenient for long days on the trail, but the constant sloshing of water against my back got really annoying 😬 My sister taught me this simple trick and it completely changed my experience using a water bladder!

Step 1: Fill up your water bladder
Step 2: Flip it over (so the hose is at the top) and suck out all the extra air
Step 3: Put the bladder in your pack and enjoy being able to use a water bladder without the water bouncing around! 🤩

Give this a try on your next adventure!

We always try to be as courteous as possible when we’re in the outdoors. If we get to camp late, we stay quiet and If we leave early, we pack up as quickly and quietly as we can. We think everyone should do their best to be considerate of the people around them.

That being said, the reality is that public lands are shared spaces. Sometimes you’ll have noisy neighbors, crowded trails, or a group loudly packing up camp at 5am. That’s just part of being out there with other people who enjoy the outdoors differently than you do.

This morning was actually the one day I planned to sleep in after waking up at 3am the last few days for trail runs. Instead, another group got an early start and their car alarm beeped every time they opened and closed the door which was probably about 100 times. Another group also fired up their generator before sunrise. We definitely weren’t happy about this, but we also didn’t let it get to us because that’s the reality of camping in public spaces.

We believe that we should all do our best to be respectful, but we also think a lot of outdoor experiences get ruined by expectations that everyone else will behave exactly how we’d like them to. If it’s not harming the environment, breaking rules, or creating a safety issue, we try to roll with it and enjoy being out there anyway!

How to p**p outside ⤵️

1️⃣ Always use a pit toilet or privy if one is available. That’s what they are there for.

2️⃣ If cat holes aren’t allowed, use a WAG bag. A WAG bag is a portable waste bag that contains a gelling agent to safely contain human waste. Do your business in the bag, seal it, and pack it out for disposal in the trash.

3️⃣ If there isn’t a toilet and cat holes are allowed, walk at least 200 feet from water, trails, campsites, and other people.

4️⃣ Find a good spot that’s not in a high traffic area and dig a cat hole 6–8 inches deep in the soil.

5️⃣ Do your business in the hole, not on the surface.

6️⃣ Pack out your toilet paper whenever possible. In many places, this is now considered best practice.

7️⃣ If local regulations allow TP to be buried, place it in the cat hole, mix it with the waste and some soil using a stick, then bury it completely.

8️⃣ Fill the hole with the original soil and make the area look natural. Put a large rock or some sticks over the area if possible to prevent others from accidentally trying to use the same area.

9️⃣ Pack out wipes, feminine hygiene products, and any other trash. Never bury them.

🔟 Leave the area looking like nobody was ever there.

A proper cat hole is buried waste in a hole. Surface p**ping and covering it with a few rocks isn’t Leave No Trace.

The outdoors isn’t a giant bathroom. If we want clean campsites, clean water, and a better experience for everyone we all need to do our part.
