Straightness tolerance. Should you invest the extra money to get a straighter arrow?

For years I bought the straightest arrows I could find, spending more than I really needed to.

For a very very small percent of archers, straitness tolerance may have an effect on your shooting. But that % is small.

Consider that the arrow is not static in the air. The arrow is continually flexing and de flexing in flight.

Choosing to practice regularly, and trigger control will have more of an impact on your accuracy than straightness tolerance.

Mastering spot and stalk hunting requires staying undetected, and here are some fundamental tips:

1. Wind Awareness: Pay attention to wind direction. Think about how thermals rise in the morning and fall in the evening. Plan your access to avoid your scent blowing into the hunting area. Stalk with the wind blowing from the animal to you for better success. Wind creates cover on windy days helps mask noise and movement.

2. Slow and Steady: Remind yourself that the animal has all day, so avoid rushing the stalk. Take your time and be patient. If needed, return the next day. When the animal is in position, move with the wind in mind to get closer.

3. Pay Close Attention: Focus on your hunt and be mindful of any noise you may make while moving. Observe the animal's body language and avoid moving if its ears are pointed at you. Use cover and avoid exposing yourself in the open whenever possible.

During spot and stalk hunts, a significant amount of time is spent spotting for animals. Learn to be patient. You might spend hours, days, or even weeks looking through binoculars or a spotting scope before seeing your desired animal.

Look for the right spots, such as freshly sprouted green grass or other forage. On hot days, focus on shaded bedding areas or watering holes. Pay attention to high-probability areas while still keeping an eye on less likely spots.

Observe an animal closely to ensure there are no others nearby before making a move.

Avoid fixating on one animal too early in the stalk, as it could spook other animals and bump your target animal secondhand.

A Case Knife Story I was sitting on the long bench that stretched next to the meal table. The wood stove was cranking its dry heat out, and I was drinking a glass of Pennsylvania mountain water. My chapped lips showed that I was doing a bad job keeping up with hydration. If I smiled, it hurt. It was Sunday night....

So something you may not know... I'm rebuilding a maule M4.

It's a pretty cool and in depth process.

This airplane hasn't flown in over 10 years.

The restoration consists of:

New fabric on the fuselage and aft control surfaces. (Poly Fiber)

New breaks and wheels.
(Alaska Airframes)

New avionics (leaning toward Dynon)

New propeller

Re installation of engine

Stripping and repainting wings and wing control surfaces.

Fuel and brake line fabrication and installation.

Registration and appropriate faa paperwork.
