We got weights in fish! (Again)

Curtis Lee Daniels of Willow Park, Texas was arrested Sunday at Lake Fork after Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) game wardens discovered three ¾-ounce lead weights inside a largemouth bass he submitted during the tournament. Those same weights were later found in Daniels’ boat, leaving little doubt about how they ended up in the fish.

Daniels is currently being held in the Wood County Jail on a $20,000 bond, facing a third-degree felony charge under Texas fishing tournament laws. The event he entered had a total prize purse of $11,500.

This isn’t a minor offense. In Texas, a third-degree felony can carry up to 10 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines. Daniels could also face the loss of his fishing license and additional civil penalties under TPWD regulations.
