WEEK 2 PREVIEW - THOMAS WALKER AT LEE HIGH

It’s an all Lee County showdown Friday night as Thomas Walker makes the trip to take on Lee High in the 12th meeting between the two programs.

The series has belonged to the Generals, with Lee holding an 11-0 all time advantage, but don’t let that record fool you, the last two meetings have been battles. Lee escaped with a 28-21 win in 2024 before another one score fight last season, 28-22.

Now both teams enter this year’s matchup 0-1 and hungry for their first win. Lee fell to Union in its season opener, while Thomas Walker dropped an interstate matchup with Cumberland Gap. The Generals entered the season with high expectations, but Week 1 delivered a major blow when standout Karder Pendergraft suffered an undisclosed injury to the same knee that required ACL surgery last year. Pendergraft is still undergoing testing as the Generals hope he’ll be able to return at some point this season.

In his absence, Lee will need some familiar names to shoulder a bigger load. Cutchin Wynn, Nate Shelburne and Aiden Bates will be important on both sides of the football, while quarterback Clay Robbins will look to get the Generals’ offense rolling.

Thomas Walker has some weapons of its own.

Lincoln Munsey and Malki Wilder give the Pioneers players capable of creating big plays, while quarterback Luke Golden brings plenty of athleticism to the position and won’t shy away from the challenge. The Pioneers suffered a setback of their own as Luke Cantor suffered a foot injury in week 0 and will be sidelined indefinitely.

And there’s another wrinkle that should add a little extra juice to this one: Thomas Walker’s roster features some former Lee players. When you’re already talking about two Lee County schools separated by a short drive, familiarity is high. Add former teammates lining up on opposite sidelines, and things get even more interesting.

Lee wants to keep a perfect 11-0 series record intact. Thomas Walker would love nothing more than to make No. 12 the one that finally ends the streak. After two straight one score meetings, don’t be surprised if this Lee County matchup delivers another fight Friday night.
