This week reminded me why I love what I do.
I've been working with some buyers who are making a huge life transition. We talk so much that I can already tell we're becoming lifelong friends. They're moving from another state after living in the same home for more than 30 years. They've loved Estes Park for years and have dreamed of living here. Now they're under contract on a cozy mountain cabin, and suddenly they're learning about things they've never had to think about before.
Wells. Septic systems. Water quality. Radon. Surveys versus ILCs. Mountain insurance. Property lines. Every answer seems to lead to another question.
When I began my career in real estate, I was told two things: "Every deal is different," and "Nothing you learned in real estate school truly prepares you for a career in real estate." I've discovered that's because every transaction is really about people—and every person brings a different story, different fears, different dreams, and different expectations.
Sometimes my role is negotiating. Sometimes it's educating. Sometimes it's researching and asking a million questions. But most often, it's simply listening and helping people navigate one of the biggest transitions of their lives.
Buying a home isn't just a financial decision. It's often tied to retirement, a fresh start, a lifelong dream, or a desire to live differently. Greg and I experienced that ourselves when we moved to Estes Park and began our own "retirement careers." Starting over in a new community is exciting, but it's also hard to let go of what's familiar and embrace who you're becoming.
That's why I believe my job is about much more than buying or selling houses. It's about helping people move confidently into the next chapter of their lives.
I'm grateful for my colleagues and local partners who make these journeys possible. Over the past few years, I've come to appreciate the relationships I've built with trusted professionals who care as much about my clients as I do. My hope is that when a buyer closes on a home, they don't feel like the journey has ended—they feel like they've just turned onto a brand-new road, supported by a community that wants to see them thrive.
Every transaction is a journey, and I'm honored every time someone trusts me to walk that path with them.
