Turns out, gravel has a sense of humor too.

How else do you explain the unexpected headwind that shows up right when you turn north. The climb that “didn’t look that bad on the map.” The moment your buddy says, “just one more mile…” (it’s never one more mile).

But somehow… those are the rides we laugh about the most.

Tag your favorite riding partner—the one who makes the hard miles feel lighter—and tell us: what’s the funniest thing that’s ever happened to you on a ride?

Kansas is bigger than any one route—and the best roads aren’t always on the map yet.

That’s where you come in.

We know there are hidden gems out there… the stretch of gravel with the climb that tells a story, that has that funky roadside art, the backroad that connects two towns in a way only locals understand. Those routes matter. And right now, many of them are missing.

Let’s fill in the gaps—together.

Send us a message or drop your route below. Your road could be someone else’s next adventure.

Route of the Week: Old Military Road

This route begins and ends at the Barnsville Cemetery, established as such for the 5th Kansas Volunteer Cavalry. It is the final resting place of 24 civil war Union Soldiers who had been stationed at nearby Camp Denver (just a few miles from the cemetery). The loop takes you through rural farmlands, an interesting bridge on the Old Military Highway, and several water crossings (low-water and bridges).

This week’s ride invites you to pedal with purpose on the Saintly Hero route — a journey across quiet Kansas roads to Pilsen, the hometown of Chaplain Emil Kapaun.

More than just a gravel adventure, this route offers a chance to reflect on a legacy of courage, service, and compassion. Along the way, you’ll experience peaceful countryside, big skies, and the kind of miles that remind us why we ride — to explore, to connect, and to honor the stories rooted in these places.

Plan your trip, take in the history, and make the ride your own.

Who’s ready to add Saintly Hero to their list? 🙌

Saddle up for a ride that rolls straight through history on the roads north of Dodge City. The Hoof, Horn, and Stone Trail isn’t just a gravel route — it’s a journey back to the days when wagon tracks, cattle drives, and frontier life shaped the High Plains.

Along the way you’ll cross Sawlong Creek, home to nearly three miles of visible swales and a historic crossing that once supported supply wagons traveling between Fort Hays and Fort Dodge before the railroad arrived. The creek also helped supply limestone for early frontier buildings, leaving a quiet but powerful mark on the region.

Further along lies Duck Creek, where cowboys and longhorns once paused before heading into Dodge City for rest, supplies, and a little frontier fun. Local lore even says the creek holds a few wild stories that didn’t end so well — a reminder of just how rugged life on the plains could be.

Big skies, rolling gravel, and stories in every mile — this is one to ride slow and soak in.
