LCCC men’s and women’s soccer are hitting prime time tonight on Spectrum News!

Soccer is on the rise, and Lorain County is right in the middle of it.

From the youngest players kicking a ball around local fields, to high school standouts, to LCCC men’s and women’s soccer, to the next level of the game — the talent, the passion and the opportunity are all growing right here in Lorain County.

This isn’t just soccer happening here.

It’s becoming part of who we are.

Soccer County USA is getting noticed. And tonight, Lorain County gets the spotlight.

Soccer surges in northeast Ohio as player numbers climb post-World Cup at college, youth, and high school levels.

Well… today is the rematch.

Come down to the fields on Abbe Road at 5 PM and see what the new LCCC looks like.

Because one thing is going to happen today:

It won’t be 9-2.

Different team.
Different mentality.
Different LCCC.

The work has been happening.

The LCCC men’s and women’s soccer teams are here at ForeFront Field for the Leviathan U.S. Open Cup match against Akron City FC, and LCCC assistant coaches are on the sideline working with the Leviathan coaching staff.

Ask a 19-year-old:

“What did you do at practice?”

“Nothing.”

Meanwhile, what actually happened…

We took the LCCC men’s and women’s teams to ForeFront Field — a professional stadium — and put them on the field with Leviathan players, including talent from Ontario.

They trained in a pro environment, competed against USL2-level players and some of the best talent in the area, pushed each other, learned from each other and battled for every ball.

Apparently Canada even sent players across Lake Erie with their soccer balls, cleats and whatever tariffs they’re charging on midfielders these days.

And then?

Ice cream.

That’s Soccer County USA.

Pro stadium.
College players.
USL2 players.
Men and women.
Local and international talent.

Compete together. Build relationships. Eat ice cream.

“What did you do at practice?”

“Nothing.”

Exactly.

Doubters to believers

Doubters to believers.

The last time Lorain County Community College played Tri-C, the scoreboard read 13–0.

Last night, the 2026 version of LCCC men’s soccer stood toe-to-toe with Tri-C for 89 minutes.

One goal in the 89th minute gave Tri-C the 2–1 victory.

But something bigger happened tonight.

Tri-C believed enough to know they had to fight for 90 minutes.

And LCCC believed enough to know they belonged on that field.

That’s the difference.

We’re not asking everyone to believe in us today. We’re building something that makes it harder to doubt us tomorrow.

Every practice. Every game. Every battle.

One doubter at a time.

Doubters to believers.

And today, Tri-C became a little more of a believer.

Lorain County is becoming believers every single day.

The thunder delayed.

The soccer wasn’t.

After a weather delay pushed kickoff back, LCCC Men’s Soccer brought the thunder for all 90 minutes.

Tri-C struck early, finding the back of the net just five minutes in. But instead of letting the early setback dictate the night, LCCC settled in, trusted its style, and began to control the game.

The result was a team that looked increasingly comfortable, composed and confident — eventually finding the equalizer to make it 1-1.

Then, in the 89th minute, Tri-C found the winner.

Final: LCCC 1, Tri-C 2.

A tough result, but a tremendous step forward.

Tri-C is coming off an 8-5-1 season and clearly has no idea what hit them! A rivalry is budding, red cards flew for Tri-C, meaning we are in their heads. And after tonight, we can’t wait to bring them on our home turf in October!

As Jürgen Klopp has often emphasized, results alone are not always the best measure of progress. Tonight, the scoreboard says defeat. The performance says something different.

The standard is rising.

The belief is growing.

And the next chapter is already being written.
