Ugh, again

Tyler ran his #41 SK Modified, a 40 lap event with a 24 car field.
The first practice had him pulling off the track after 4 laps, the distributor acting up again. The crew frantically went to work trying to determine the issue, ended up changing it out. Many, many thanks to Meg Fuller Racing/Keith Rocco Racing for letting us borrow one. Thanks also to Bolles Race Cars, Inc. for the offer of theirs. Ty was able to make it out for the second practice but only got half the laps in because someone else spun out and the track ended their session early.
There wasn’t any qualifying for the SK’s due to the Tour Modifieds being there. Ty started his feature P5, got up to 2nd, had some shuffling at the top and was in 4th when the first caution flag fell. He was able to maintain that position when another caution came about. This time he got stuck in the outside lane and wasn’t able to get an opening to get down to the preferred groove. He fell back position by position, finally settling into 12th which is where he finished. So, we completed the race but are still struggling with the set up. Lots of work is being done in the shop this week, looking forward to the next race.

Oops

Not the night we were hoping for with Tyler and the #41 SK Modified. Practice was just okay, decent speed but the car wasn’t handling as well as the week before. Ty started first in his heat race, led all the laps and finished there. This put him P5 for the 40 lap main event in a field of 23 cars. Tyler took the lead by lap 2 but was overtaken five circuits later. On the 9th lap he was looking to get it back when he made a regrettable mistake, he bottomed out and made contact with the leader. This sent him to the back of the pack. Ty pitted and the crew made some positive adjustments, he then began to work his way up through the field ultimately finishing 13th.

Okay, fun day!

It was another Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series race, 125 laps, 25 car field. Success in that we completed the entire race with minimal damage, lots of experience gained!

Steven drove the Casella Snow Plows and Roscoe Racing #25, it was his first time in an open car at this track. Practice went well, he had the 9th fastest time. For the group qualifying he was 12th fastest which gave him a 4th place starting spot in his heat race. Unfortunately he suffered a broken ty rod on the second lap and didn’t finish. This earned him the last place starting position for the feature event (25th). Steven drove competitively through the field, around the halfway point he was in 8th. He got some damage to his left rear along the way but it didn’t seem to affect the car. His fastest time was set on lap 83! Restarts and “chooses” went well, he gained and lost positions throughout the run. The last third of the race is when the cars that had pitted started to come through. Steven ran the final 45 laps in 13th/14th, ultimately crossing the finish line P14.

Tyler had a more dramatic day in the Les Hinckley Racing #06. It was his third visit to Seekonk in this car. He started out a little lackluster, was only 15th fastest in practice. The group qualifying went better, he was 9th on the speed chart. This had Ty lining up P1 for his heat race and he finished there, giving him a 5th place starting position for the feature event. The first 80 laps were super exciting, Ty was in the top 5 vying for the lead much of the time. He held the top spot for a bit, did an awesome job on restarts and with the choose cone. The last 25 laps of the race became tough as the car began to go away and those that had made pit stops passed him. He drove hard and came away with a 13th place finish.

Thank you so much to Les and Gary for the opportunity, their crews for their hard work, the My Three Sons Racing guys that came out, along with the friends and family that lend their support. All in all it was a great experience, it goes down as a good day!

Ugh, again

Tonight was the 100 lap event that was postponed from the week before. Tyler had already qualified the #41 SK Modified, set himself to line up for the feature P4. His division went out for their first practice, Ty set down the fastest time. Then there was a rather long rain delay and the the track decided to go right into features. 27 cars took the green flag, Ty quickly moved into 3rd. A crash by the leader on the first lap had him restarting the main event in 3rd. He was up a spot within a lap and pressuring the lead car. He settled into second place as it was a long distance race. He had no trouble holding his position, he set the fastest lap of the race. Ty said he was saving some of the car and was only running at about 85%. On lap 27 he felt some sputtering and then the car shut off. He had to be pushed off the track and unfortunately was unable to get running again. He was scored 25th. It seems to be the same problem as the previous race. We think something happened the night he backed into the wall, new parts and a ton of time apparently didn’t address the issue but we’ll keep after it. The good news is that we can go fast and the crew has some solid ideas about what to try next.

Ugh again

It was a routine Friday night race for Tyler in his #41 SK Modified, a 40 lap distance and 23 car field. The team worked all week getting the car in shape including new distributor parts. All started out looking great. Ty finished the second practice with the fastest time and was happy with the car. He started his heat race in 2nd, fell back to 5th due to a three wide situation, made up ground to finish safely in 3rd. This had him lining up 5th for the feature (the highest starting position he can have since he won a race). He looked really good, the car looked fast and like it was handling well. He laid down the fastest time in the race on lap 11 and was in 3rd when two laps later something in the distributor let go. Ty pulled off the track safely and watched the rest of the race from behind the wall. Race monitor shows him finishing 22nd. Two weeks in a row of mechanical issues has us pretty much out of the points race for the season, but hopefully we’ll return to chase some wins.

Ugh

The SK Modifieds had a week off so the crew spent the time thoroughly going over the #41. Plans were to share the track rental Friday morning and they were looking forward to testing/trying out some changes. That got cancelled, the pressure was on to get the car in form during the regular time frame. It was a special event for the SK’s, a 50 lap feature, 25 cars showed up. The first practice was rough, Ty’s best time was about 3.5 tenths off his regular time. The second practice was a little better but still 2 tenths away from where he’d like to be. Ty went out 4th for his heat race and finished 3rd. It was a plus/minus night to determine the lineup, he started the feature P8. The very first lap, coming out of turn two, the cars in front of him got squirrelly and Ty got spun from behind. He hit the wall with his left rear, hard but not super hard, but he couldn’t make the car go. He got pushed into the pits, the crew determined that the distributor broke. The got to work and Ty was able to rejoin the race, I believe he was 6 laps down. The rest of the night was spent running just a bit back from the field, giving himself plenty of time to avoid any incidents. He was able to get a couple laps back with the “lucky dog “, but not enough. According to race monitor he finished 20th, completing 45 laps. He took a big hit to the points standing, we’re staying positive as there’s still some time left in the season.

Good with some misfortune

Steven and Tyler participated in the GAF Roofing Modified Masters, another race in the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series. 80 laps with 27 cars in attendance.

Steven ran the Casella Snow Plows and Roscoe Racing #25. He was 2nd fastest after two rounds of practice, was 7th in group qualifying. He started on the pole for his heat race, held off and pulled away from the second place car (Ryan Preece), finished 1st. This had him lining up 7th for the feature. He fell back some, struggling a bit with the handling. Around the halfway point Steven pitted, changes were made that had the car going much better. He was looking good and making forward progress when on lap 63 a caution came out for wreck. Unfortunately, he ran over a spring that was on the track and it got stuck under his car. Steven was able to shake it off but once the race restarted he kept sliding, apparently the spring had poked a hole in his radiator and he was running through his own water. He pulled it in on lap 74, race monitor shows the #25 as finishing 21st.

Tyler ran the Les Hinckley Racing #06. He had a less eventful night but a much better finish! Ty was 7th fastest in the practice sessions, 10th in the group qualifying. He started his heat race in the 2nd position and finished in the 2nd position. This had him lining up 10th for the main event. He quickly moved up some and ran in the 6th spot for a lot of the early race. He got shuffled back during a pit stop around the half way mark then began fighting his way towards the front again. He drove hard for each position and finished the race 7th. Another top ten finish!

Thank you to Gary, Mully, and the entire #25 crew for all the hard work. Thank you to Les and the #06 crew for all of their hard work. We truly appreciate the opportunity!

Thank you to the My Three Sons Racing team for their help and support, and all the people who came to the track for us!

Frustrating

Not a great night but it could have been worse for Tyler in his #41 SK Modified. He once again laid down the fastest lap in practice and he had no problem showing speed in his heat race. It was a regular Friday night schedule with a 40 lap main event, Ty lined up 6th in the 22 car field. He started out okay and was knocking in the door of the top 5 when on lap 12 he got a little out of shape trying to gain some advantage, then got tagged from behind and spun. He never stopped and was hoping to get his position back after the yellow flag but the officials said he caused the caution - Ty was sent to the rear of the field. He quickly got to P12, then fell back to 13th. He was unable to make any more forward progress, he crossed the finish line in that position. We have the next week off and he and the crew are already hard at work, looking for ways to improve the handling of the car and maintain speed throughout the night. Ty lost the points lead, but he’s not too far away!
