Today is the day!! Please pray for me. Pray I will be aware of my time and adjust as needed. Please pray for endurance. Pray that I will not experience injuries. Please pray that I will remember to fuel and hydrate. Pray that my legs and feet will carry me through. Most of all, please pray I cross the finish line.

Teal Diva founder, Shannon Routh, will be running in the New York Marathon tomorrow! Below are her thoughts and motivations as she takes on the challenge - let's all CHEER her on!!!!
----------
Since being diagnosed I try to challenge myself to go beyond what I ever thought I could do pre-cancer. It is my way of saying FU to cancer. I have climbed Mt Kilimanjaro, zip lined in the desert (with a healthy fear of heights), kayaked in class 3 rapids, cliff jumped in Bali, and surfed in Maui. I am dedicating each mile of my run to women who inspire me in some way or another. I couldn’t include everyone but know that everyone I come in contact with is inspiring!! This community is the best community I never wanted to be a part of. You don’t have to do those things to celebrate your survivorship, but do find YOUR way to celebrate!

Got in a beautiful 19 miles this morning at what I believe will be my marathon pace. My goal is to keep it between 13-16 minute miles, consistently. I fueled adequately this morning. Had running buddies for most of the run. Can you believe I paused my timer when I stopped to get a pebble out of my shoe and forgot to start it back. 😩

Feeling pretty good and officially back at it. Thankfully the colder weather has brought my pace back down. If you guys recall there were times my pace was like 18 mins…sometimes 20 per mile in the Summer. Grateful for cooler temps and a faster pace and some nice scenery while visiting my pop.

Whoops! Remember me?! I’m still here. Healing from my odd injury. EVERYONE in the running community and healing community have encouraged to take the time or it could really be a lot worse. I have worn out my shoes and got my “marathon” shoes and I am going to begin trying out different types of fueling for my longer runs.
My plan is to start back easy and build. I don’t necessarily have a plan. Everyone I talk to says to listen to my body. So that is what I’m gonna do. With this set back, I’m feeling nervous and a bit unprepared.

On Sunday, I hit an uneven part of a sidewalk and somehow jarred my lower back. I went to the chiropractor and he did some work and asked me not to run. I have been putting heat on it. Today he released me to run only one mile and see how I feel. I am supposed to run 12 this wknd but he said if I don’t let this heal, I won’t be running at all. My sister suggested I run 1 mile each day. I’m gonna try one mile beginning Friday to give myself another day. And then if I feel ok, I’ll do 1 mile each day until I see him again on Monday.

16.7 miles today. I was supposed to do 18 and there was a way I could have gotten it in but my legs, toes, feet, hips and lower back said no girl.
With the uprising in runner attacks, JJ followed me in the car for a while and then I decided to run on the greenway. There just so happened to be a Half Marathon going on on the greenway. JJ walked a mile and a half out and back. On the greenway portion, I did 6 miles total. For some reason I just felt like the run/walk took forever. But I got quite a bit of miles in and I’m ok with what I got done.

I had one goal heading into this race- please don’t let me get picked up by the sweeper. I had to improve my pace in order to make that goal. And I did it. It was a super challenging course (I thought). There was a ridiculous hill in there called the Queen’s Climb. The humidity…my lord the humidity.
🌟I am grateful for a cloudy morning.
🌟I am grateful to have been under 15 minutes per mile overall.
🌟I am grateful to my husband and Miss Opal for being my personal cheerleaders.
🌟I am grateful to all the cheerleaders on all the bridges and along the route…that was really cool.
🌟I am grateful for the water stops
🌟I am grateful for finishing

This course is gorgeous from every angle just like the Queen City. Take it in and enjoy the highway at 5mph rather than 50mph.

WATER STOPS
There will be 2 water stops around mile 1 (AND portajons) and 4 where we will be using Hiccups. You’ll use them just like a normal water stop - rehydrate then toss in the trash can. The only difference is this can of cups gets ⁣washed, sanitized, and prepped for the next local race in its life cycle.

PACERS
Once again, we're excited to work runCLTrun and Charlotte Running Club to build our pace team once again this year! We'll have pacers from a 45 minute (7:14 min/mi) finish to an 85 minute (13:45 min/mi) helping you crush your goal!

REMINDER
There is a pace maximum of 13:45 min/mi put in place by the Department of Transportation. If you drop below this pace while on I-277, busses will be following the police and you will be asked kindly to join the party wagon.

Pretty run this morning. I hit a wall around 10 miles but the goal was 12 today so even though I walked a lot the last two miles, I got it in. My feet hurt. My legs hurt. And I almost potty’d on myself. #1

The level of excitement for this girl is pretty up there. I also got a new sports bra from Soma. Fueling with rotisserie chicken, broccoli and blueberries. Maybe a little vino too😳. Overall, I am ready for the run tomorrow.

I struggled again today and I know it’s not all humidity. We were on the track this morning and my coach had mentioned a nutritionist in our group. She actually passed us and I was able to pick her brain for one full lap. I ‘am’ eating wrong. Her words were to replace beef and pork with salmon, tuna, and chicken. She told me what kind of veggies to eat and the grains that are ok. She told me to increase my caloric intake by at least 400 calories a day.
What I got out of the conversation is that the Mediterranean diet would probably be beneficial for me.

Two experts break down everything you need to know about this way of eating.
