OUTDOOR HEAT-RELATED SCHEDULE CHANGES
Due to the excessive heat warnings expected tomorrow, we are making the following changes to our athletic schedule for the safety of our student-athletes:
All outdoor Middle School athletic events will be 8th-grade-only contests beginning at 7:00 PM.
All outdoor High School athletic events will be varsity-only contests beginning at 7:00 PM.
Based on the forecasted temperatures, heat index, and Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) readings, conditions are not expected to reach the safe-for-activity zone until approximately 6:15–6:30 PM. This allows for 30–45 minutes of warm-up time before the 7:00 PM contests begin.
Because of the late start and the time needed to safely warm up and conduct each contest, there is not enough time to play a second game. Therefore, our Middle School contests will be limited to 8th grade only, while our High School contests will be varsity only.
We will always err on the side of caution when it comes to the health and safety of our student-athletes. Their well-being will always be our top priority.
All contests scheduled for 7:00 PM will continue to follow all KHSAA Heat Safety Guidelines. If conditions are not safe for activity to begin at 7:00 PM, the start of the contest will be delayed until conditions are safe for play. Mandatory water breaks will also be incorporated throughout the contests.
