Islands boyz vs Surge ends abruptly.

A scheduled crossover game between the PAFL and the PFA abruptly ends Saturday cut short after a city official walked on the field and interrupted the game after a kickoff and one play ran by the Boyz early in the first quarter.

A city official from the school district stated Surge did not have a scheduled game at Briggs Parks, after a several minute conversations both teams were told to vacate the premises immediately.

All the entry fee was returned to the fans. The Island Boyz were rewarded a 21-0 forfeit win over the Surges.

On June 6, the Island boyz travels to Akron to take on the PAFL defending champions Columbus Fire.

Island Boyz 12, Raiders 6

This game predicted the Island Boyz to be a huge favorite, and the result didn’t play that way, it was an offensive struggle. The Island Boyz struck first but failed the two-point conversion. The Boyz defense would dominate the entire game, shutting the Raiders offense down though they would get a few promising yards but was denied an endzone appearance.

The Raiders would eventually get on the board with a fumble in the end zone making the score 6-6.

The Boyz defense would continue their dominance in the second half clamped down on Raider’s offense. Late in the fourth quarter with seconds remaining, the Boyz would drop the go-ahead touchdown sending them into overtime. The Boyz defense would raise to the occasion once again to deny the Raiders a touchdown. The boyz would secure the overtime victory with a short rushing touchdown in the season opener. The Island Boyz will travel to take on the Grand Rapids Surge of the PFA (Player Football Association) in week two.

The Island Boyz has shown signs of greatness. Consecutive winning seasons, playoffs, conference championships, championship appearance bowl games, bowl victories. The program has been steadily solid. The goal is to return to the championship and finish.

And yes, things could have gotten worse with the championship lost last season - with a few individuals entering the semi-pro transfer portal to play elsewhere. The core remained intact while a plethora of fresh talent joined the Boyz in their quest to return to the league championship. However, the Island Boyz will be entering its thirteenth season this Saturday, May 23, taking on the Metro Detroit Raiders in their season opener.

It should be an epic showdown. Look for the offense to use ball control, grind it out the entire game as the defense looks to dominate the line of scrimmage with the front six, forcing the Raiders to play at the wrong speed discarding their game plan.
