Runnin' 4 a Reason

Runnin' 4 a Reason Runnin' 4 a Reason uses athletic ability to fundraise and raise awareness for various causes.
I'm a runner.

It's taken me a long time to admit to this, but after completing 5 half marathons I have finally come to admit it. During the summer of 2013 I signed up for a 10k race that encouraged participants to raise money. I thought this was a fantastic idea, and although I only had about 6 weeks to raise money I set my goal at $500. (others had been raising money for months) In 6 weeks I raised almost $100

0!!! There was something about this experience that I felt there was a bigger possibility to raise money, whether through per mile donations or flat donations. I then started realizing that there are many causes that are important to me, and I decided I still wanted to do more. Whether helping raise money for someone battling cancer, or large scale awareness such as HIV/AIDS or homelessness I have decided to start Runnin' 4 a Reason.

I hit up the west trail at the parkway tonight and I got surprised by an eagle fly over on my run. This was the best picture I could grab last second.

I know it’s been a hot minute, but this came up in my Timehop today and definitely caught my attention. I’ve gone through various medical adventures and when the professionals have said, my goodness, I can’t believe it took you this long to comeback in I’ve usually responded with, yea I have a high pain tolerance, and I guess it’s true!
It’s crazy how the uncomfortable can become comfortable when it comes to running. Ando absolutely reminded myself of that tonight as I complete a walk / run before softball practice.

For the first time since 2020, I took on the Mountain Goat Run ! Albeit the relay thanks to but none the less, it felt great to be out there. My goal was to hit the relay point within 60 minutes, and I am proud to say it was UNDER 54 minutes! There was more walking than I would have liked, but I also came down with a head cold this past Monday so I can’t complain too much.
A HUGE shout out to my partner in this! She hasn’t been able to train as much as she would have liked, not really going over 3 miles in any of her runs and she CRUSHED IT out there handling her part in 49 minutes!!! Thanks for joining me out there and finally hitting up the Goat course. Couldn’t have done it without you! Here’s hoping we can both walk tomorrow.

Tomorrow is the and I’m as ready as I’m ever going to be. I’ve ran the 10-mile course at least 10 times, but I haven’t been out there since 2019. I completed it virtually in 2020 and then tore my ACL, completely derailing my running journey. At the end of 2025, I pushed myself to get back into running more. It hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve stuck with it. I was stoked when I completed 5-miles last Saturday. I was feeling sore on Sunday so I took an unexpected rest day, and then 💥 woke up Monday with what I thought was allergies, but turned out to be a head cold. I’ve spent the last week taking it super easy with no training. I wish I was going into tomorrows race feeling more confident than I am, but I also know I’ve done the best I could to get to here. I’m grateful for a yin yoga class this morning with .mindfulhealthcoach to try and help prepare me as well. I’m also glad I’m doing the relay this year, as 5 miles is all I’m really going to be able to handle.

FINALLY got my 5-miles in before next weeks relay! It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it! Will dial back a little over the next week to hopefully have a little energy in these legs to tackle next week. Also timed everything so I could join .mindfulhealthcoach 10:30am yoga class to get a deeper stretch post-run.

Quiet with posting but still logging miles. It’s crazy how one day you can have a kick ass run (Tuesday) and then seemingly have a crappy one right after (today). But I am loving being out at 6am and hearing the birds, seeing deer, as well as watching the sunrise.

While I’ve not posted in awhile, I’ve still been out running and training. Today was the Zoo Run Run and that work absolutely paid off. While I didn’t set any records or PRs, I still felt strong through the end.
This year I was once again joined by .mindfulhealthcoach / as well as a few of my coworkers to help us make up Team / Team Avalon!
Next up is the relay with !

Well hot damn! I was worried when I saw that this weeks interval really kicks up the running portion, but I kept the speeds slow and steady for the most part and made it through!!!

HUGE strides made tonight!

1 mile in 12:48 (last week it was around consistently around 14 minutes - this includes 5min walk warmup)

2 miles: 24:09
Saturday it was 25:09
