Everyone knows the reaction. The context is what makes it interesting.

Kawhi was only 21, LeBron was in his prime, and the possessions leading up to this moment show why Kawhi was already such a brutal matchup.

Not because he “stopped” LeBron, but because he made everything harder.

LeBron got the last "reaction" with the series win and FMVP, but Kawhi laid the groundwork to follow it up with the same accolades in the same matchup the following season.

KAT isn't getting enough love for how much he adjusted and sacrificed during this championship run.

Go back to Game 2. He shot 67% and the Knicks lost by one. Four games later he shot 25%... and New York won by 51, the largest playoff victory in franchise history.

What changed had almost nothing to do with making shots. He fought harder to catch it deep instead of getting pushed off his spot. He stopped rushing the first read and let the defense tell him what was open. And defensively he stopped chasing guys Atlanta didn't actually want shooting, so he could stay near the rim

Same team. Same stage. Six months apart.

Downhill Dylan with 21 points in December and 25 points in June.

This is why the stats don't give the full story, but the TAPE does.

Harper with an all time rookie playoff run and the fact he is ALREADY this good is scary for the rest of the West. The improvements are in hidden within the film with this one.

6-for-24. 0-for-6 from three. And it's the game that proves he's ONE OF the GOATs of the game.
Bynum couldn't grab a board, so Kobe went and got 15 himself. That wasn’t it though!!
This one gets "held" against his legacy and it shouldn't.

Some of the Westbrook discourse has gotten way too disrespectful. Before the decline talk - there were performances from the athletic freak of a prodigy like this.
Let’s go back to Game 5 against Lob City. 38 points, creating for everybody, pestering CP3 all game and relentless pressure at the rim. Oh yeah, and ice in his veins when OKC needed it most.
This is the Russell Westbrook I remember the most.

Game 3 changed everything for Jalen Duren đź‘€

With Duren’s next contract hanging over all of it, these possessions got expensive. Like 10's or even 100's of M's expensive.

The shots not falling can happen to the best. The frustration and the little mistakes just kept adding up.

Ant’s role just changed 👀
A lot of talk about what LaMelo adds, but not enough about what he takes off Ant’s plate. That might be the most important part of this trade.
The Wolves finally addressed one of the biggest problems that kept showing up in Ant’s playoff runs. It’s going to be a lot harder to scheme Minnesota into a corner now.

Where you rank Ausar tells me a lot about how you see the game. I’m seeing him in the 70–90 range like he isn’t probably the best defensive guard in the league.

I get it. He’s not a scorer and he can’t shoot. But I’d take him over a player like Austin Reaves, who I’m seeing ranked in the top 20–40. In a matchup, Reaves can’t stop what Ausar does well, while Ausar can take him out of the game offensively.

And if you think Ausar doesn’t bring much on offense, consider the transition passing and finishing, his ability to get two feet in the paint, and how consistently he finds the right guy once he does. He’s also top 30 in the league in offensive rebounds. The only other guard in the top 30 is, of course, his twin brother.

This was simple, but elite playoff adjustment basketball from Cleveland's coaching staff. Ausar Thompson was wrecking possessions, just like he did in the Magic series, so the Cavs decided to avoid him entirely in Game 7. It dragged him away from the action and the Cavs ran away with the game and the series.
