Gotta be honest, Zion hasn’t lived up to the hype. It is time to hit the reset button on expectations, but that seems to be exactly what he needs.

He is improving on the end of the floor that drew some criticism and using that “one of one” frame to cause turnovers that lead to touchdowns. His ceiling hasn’t been reached yet and I am hoping he can stay healthy and get live reps to progress.
The Pelicans are trying to put a more competitive squad together and that means Zion has to be lacing up those shoes before tip-off!!

Ace dropped 30 three separate times as a rookie. He hasn’t even hit 20 yet this season, and I’m more impressed with what I’m watching right now.

This is my favorite kind of thing to dive into. A team without a ton of media attention trying to build something, and a player who took an onslaught of criticism and is starting to show real progress in the things that are coachable.
That’s what stood out to me in these two losses. Not some huge scoring night, just more and more possessions where Ace looks like he understands how he can impact winning and when the simple play is the right one offensively.

You gotta love basketball to dig this hard for the silver linings of two losses for a team that was well below .500 last season, but I said “I do” to basketball a couple decades ago 😂

The shooting is still the question. Everything else is getting impossible to question.

I get it… they aren’t Klay from beyond the arc. But they do a hell of a lot everywhere else.
Amen and Ausar are already making those offseason contracts look justified. Their teams are 5-0 through the twins’ first five games, and both are making game-altering plays defensively while creating plenty with the ball too.

The 2nd unit can actually build a lead now instead of just surviving until SGA comes back.

Mitchell and McCain bring instant offense and Mara is already impacting games with his height around the rim. SGA rests while J-Dub leads the offense, then J-Dub rests while SGA is fresh off the bench. Most importantly, they each get time to catch their breath and have the legs to finish the game.

The Thunder look poised to compete at the very top again if they can stay healthy.

Ryan Conwell has made the most of every opportunity Miami has given him so far.
Preseason is preseason, but stepping in with the starters and immediately knocking down three straight threes is exactly how a second-round pick makes leaving him out of the rotation tough on the coaching staff.
I called him a steal right after the draft. Still a long way to go, but he’s making that take look good right now.

The Wizards didn’t need Trae Young to turn every possession into his own shot.
They needed a facilitator who could connect all the talent they’ve drafted, highlight their strengths, and help turn years of development into easier offense.

I don’t know if Washington makes the leap all the way into playoff contention this season, but with the talent already there and the moves they’ve made, this suddenly looks a lot more interesting.

By now we know Jokic sees every option. What separates him is that he's got the passing, the scoring, and the deception to execute on the best one immediately. That's the part that makes him different. He was pulling every string in this one!! and if this is where he's starting, plenty of voters will be writing his name next to MVP again by April. He's been on a top 1, 2 or 3 in the world run for quite some time now!!

Based on the highlights only, he’s the next Jordan!!.. but for real, Wilson’s preseason has been impressive, and at No. 4 he already looks like a steal based on the talent and upside. This draft was just loaded at the top.

The defensive positioning, decision-making with the ball and young, slender frame all still need development, but time, training and coaching can improve all three.

The FAR scarier part is the skill that was at the center of his draft conversations and is one of the hardest things to develop in basketball: the outside jumper.
And that’s already showing real progress.

The progression every big man dreams of when trying to reach their ceiling!
Two years ago, Yaxel Lendeborg was living on the block at UAB. Michigan asked him to become a completely different player, and the part that impressed me most was how willing he was to fail in real games until it worked.
Now Golden State is already seeing the payoff.

Everybody knows OKC missed J-Dub. Watching the WCF against the Spurs and then the Finals against the Pacers back to back, it's way more glaring than I thought.
The Thunder are out for revenge, but the Spurs are young too and only getting better. It's looking like a real rivalry may be loading.
