Sometimes the hardest decisions aren't hard because we don't know our options.

They're hard because each option comes with a cost.

Over the years, I've found that one question helps bring clarity when I'm wrestling with a difficult decision:

Which option is most aligned with my values?

Not...
• Which option is easiest?
• Which one avoids conflict?
• Which one makes everyone happy?

Our values don't always make decisions easier.

But they often make them clearer.

I've had seasons where following my values meant choosing the harder path, not because I knew it would change the outcome, but because I wanted to know I had stayed true to who I am.

💜 What's one value that helps guide your decisions when life gets difficult?

💜 Leadership Lessons Life Taught Me

When I stepped away from a career I loved to become a foster parent and raise my children, I thought I was putting my leadership journey on hold.

What I didn't realize at the time was that the "pause" would last much longer than I expected.

For years, I looked at those eight years as a gap in my career. I worried about what I'd lost and whether I'd still be relevant when I returned to work.

Looking back, I see those years very differently.

While my career had paused, life hadn't.

Those years taught me resilience in ways I never expected.

They clarified my values.

They challenged me to speak up when it mattered most.

They changed how I see people, leadership, and what it means to stand by your convictions.

When I eventually returned to work, I realized something.

The leader who came back wasn't the same leader who had stepped away.

Not because I'd earned another title or taken another class.

Because life had shaped me.

Today, I don't believe leadership develops only through our careers.

Some of the experiences that shape us most happen outside the workplace- in the seasons that stretch us, challenge us, and help us discover who we are.

Looking back, I didn't take an eight-year break from leadership.

I took a break from work.

Leadership never stopped.

💜 I'd love to hear from you.

Has there been a season of life that changed you in ways you didn't fully appreciate until much later?

One of the biggest lessons I've learned in my own leadership journey is that growth isn't about becoming someone else.

It's about becoming more yourself.

The more I've understood my own values, recognized my strengths, and stopped trying to lead like everyone else, the more confident I've become.

I think that's true for all of us.

The leaders who leave the biggest impact aren't trying to fit a mold.

They're leading in a way that reflects who they are and what they believe.

💜 If someone asked you to describe the values that guide your life, what would be the first one that comes to mind?

Lately, I've had several conversations that reminded me that leadership coaching is often misunderstood.

"I don't need coaching. I already know what I need to do."
"I'm not looking for someone to tell me what to do."
"I should be able to figure it out on my own."

For me, coaching has never been about giving advice or having all the answers.

It's about creating space.
Space to think.

Space to gain perspective.

Space to notice patterns you can't always see when you're in the middle of them.

Some of the most capable leaders I've worked with didn't need someone to solve their problems. They needed someone to ask thoughtful questions, challenge assumptions, and help them reconnect with their own judgment.

I think that's where real growth happens- not when someone tells you what to do, but when you begin trusting yourself enough to know what to do next.

I'd love to hear your thoughts...

When you hear the words "leadership coach," what's the first thing that comes to mind?💜

Have you ever talked yourself out of doing something you were fully capable of doing?

Maybe it was speaking up in a meeting.
Sharing an idea.
Applying for a role.
Setting a boundary.
Trying something new.

That little voice starts whispering:

"What if you're wrong?"
"What if people judge you?"
"What if you fail?"

We often think confidence means that voice disappears.

But in my experience, confidence isn't the absence of fear. It's learning not to hand fear the steering wheel.

The voice of self-doubt is often trying to protect us from discomfort, rejection, or embarrassment. The problem is that it can also keep us from opportunities, growth, and the things we most want for ourselves.

The moments that build self-trust aren't the ones where we feel fearless.

They're the moments where we feel uncertain... and move forward anyway.

What's one thing you've done recently despite the voice telling you not to?

👀 Ever feel like you’re doing everything “right” at work, but your next level still feels out of reach?

That’s a common moment for leaders. Often, the missing piece isn’t skill — it’s strategy.

I call it the Leadership SWOT — a simple exercise to help you see your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats from a fresh perspective.

In my latest blog, I share how to run your own Leadership SWOT and even include prompts to make it practical for your daily work.

Read it here: https://wix.to/dquvCfh

💡 Try it with a trusted colleague or mentor — it’s amazing what a fresh perspective reveals.
