Thank you to the volunteers that assisted with running the race today at McMiller Sports Center! WI DNR also did a great job of grooming our course with the barely adequate, single snowfall we received last weekend!

It was a load of fun being on the McMiller race course for the first time since 2021!

Fellow Biathletes!

We received much more snow than was forecast yesterday but, overall, much less snow than we deserved during this warm, rainy winter. Fortunately, since the temps will be below freezing this week, the trail conditions at McMiller should be very good this weekend!

Registration will close at Noon on Saturday so please register now if you have any intention of racing on Sunday.

WI State Park stickers (day or annual) are required for parking at McMiller and WI State Trail passes are required for all skiers. Passes can be purchased at the McMiller XC trailhead.

Unless you have a physical limitation, please ski in from the McMiller XC trailhead. Spectators, or participants, may walk in along the gravel road marked with the Biathlon sign next to the Novice Shotgun range. Please park on the opposite side of the parking lot from the ranges. Infield parking is reserved for race volunteers and special needs attendees.

It looks like Winter is arriving today!

We will be starting our dry land practice this season on Saturdays from 9 AM - Noon at McMiller Sports Center. The Biathlon Range entrance sign is on your right just North of the first Shotgun trap range. If you are uncertain of where you are going in the live fire environment of the McMiller Sports Center, please ask directions from the Range Officers. Safety first!

Although we have snow on the ground today it will not be enough to ski at McMiller.

We plan to move the targets from summer storage and set up the biathlon range this Saturday.

Sunday October 30th at the Ariens Nordic center (ANC), Bay Nordic Biathlon club will be hosting two events:
- Red Book Certification class at 8-12.
- ROLLER SKI (run option) biathlon event following at 1pm zero. Novice event as well.

This is a GREAT opportunity to try out the not yet open ANC. Volunteers are needed too.
The race will have 3 diff length/terrain races to accommodate newer to advanced skiers.

Recently the ANC hosted a demonstration event by the USA biathlon national team and had a christening ceremony for the new nordic center.

The facility has a 20 point range and 3K of roller ski loops. I categorize the trails as medium blue loops. Perhaps similar to McMiller biathlon ski trails, eg some punchy climbs, rolly terrain, fun flowy corners so expect to stay transitioning between gliding, striding, and cornering. No where near the difficulty of Placid, Casper, or Jericho. No cars, no stop signs, no dogs chasing you, and no road rash! whoot whoot. You can never complain about a bad wax choice on this fresh corduroy!
Huge shout out to the ANC for building this facility and to commence the process to begin to integrate into the community.

other news:
1. weekend of 15/16 Oct at ANC is an advanced shooting clinic hosted by Blackhawk.
2. Good chance there is another Red Book Cert class in BlackHawk middle Nov. TBD.

Putting biathlon targets away for summer storage. Both WBA events were canceled this season due to insufficient snow conditions. No biathlon safety classes in two years mainly due the pandemic. Let’s hope for a better biathlon season next year.
