Rally Behind Ramsey My sweet 5 year-old lab mix, Ramsey, was recently diagnosed with congestive heart failure and dilate We moved to Durham, NC when he was a year old.

I adopted Ramsey from the Kentucky Humane Society when he was 3 months old in February of 2010. He was just a wee thing, with a pot belly and big brown eyes. Ramsey's favorite things are hiking, eating carrots, swimming, walking on the American To***co Trail, seeing his friends, and being with his mama. Although he's hiked all around North Carolina and Kentucky, his favorite place is Eno River Sta

te Park in NC. He roots for the Louisville Cardinals and the Durham Bulls. Ramsey has never met a stranger and makes friends wherever he goes. He loves kids because they usually have food on their hands and faces. He loves to stick his head out of the car window to feel the breeze. My beautiful boy is the epitome of love. He shows unbridled enthusiasm in everything he does. His spirited affection for people is unparalleled. Ramsey loves unconditionally. People say he is lucky to have me for a mom because of the love I show for him. But I know who is truly the lucky one...

The data from Ramsey's heart monitor vest revealed that he still has highly concerning ventricular arrhythmia. The cardiologist has increased his medicine, and we go back to the vet on Friday to get another heart monitor vest. If this increase in dosage of current medication doesn't work, we will try a new medicine. Definitely not the news I wanted, but we are staying positive.

I struggle between keeping Ramsey healthy and keeping Ramsey happy. Exploring, walking, hiking, running... All of these put stress on Ramsey's heart, but are also things that he loves.

Finally home from the hospital! Ramsey had a few chest x-rays done and an EKG. The x-rays showed that there is still fluid in his lungs, so his doc adjusted his meds. His EKG looked pretty normal, but because of his dangerous arrhythmia they wanted to monitor his heart for the next 24 hours. So...
