It didn’t end the way they wanted but don’t get it twisted, the future is LOUD in The Cove.

In tonight’s regional battle with Grundy, Freshman Ty Hood went for 32 points and fellow Freshman Will Darnell pulled down 20 rebounds. Over two regional games this week? Hood dropped 56 points. And Will Darnell? 36 rebounds in TWO games. Thirty-six. As a freshman. Let that sink in.

The season may be over, but the message has been delivered. These young War Eagles have put the region on notice. And trust me they’re not alone, there’s more young talent in that locker room ready to stack up over the next three years.

Rye Cove isn’t just a football school. War Eagle basketball is building something. And this is only the beginning!

Eagles couldn't keep up with Grundy, 74-50, on Wednesday.

Ty Hood was the top scorer for Eagles with 32 points, but it wasn't enough to secure the win.

The game was tied at 2 when Grundy went on an 11-point run to take the lead. Leading 29-20, Grundy went on a 14-1 run to pull further away.

Eagles bested Grundy 11-9 in the fourth quarter, their strongest of the game.

Hood made seven of 11 free throws, and Eagles attempted 20.

Eagles controlled the paint, grabbing 39 rebounds. Will Darnell led the team with 20 rebounds.

Carter Roach (7 points), Darnell (7 points), and Ben Mcelroy (4 points) helped out Eagles as well.

Grundy was deadly from inside the paint, finishing 20-39 on twos. Grundy shot well from distance, going 7-17 from three.

Our season ended tonight in the Region quarterfinals but we are so proud of these young men. They played hard all season, represented Rye Cove in a tremendous way, and gave us so many awesome memories to carry with us. We will miss our seniors in a big way.
