Updates:

We are still working with the city of Austin on reopening. We are juggling between different departments on moving to the next stage.

CTA is working with a LASA archer on getting his Eagle Scout award by building new first time class bale frames. Our old frames had to be discarded when we moved off the property. There will be a call for volunteers to help with the building of the frames in September.

Coach Kat has an opportunity to attend a coach training on working with para archers. So many people have contributed to make attending this training in Colorado Springs possible. Thank you all so much. If you have the ability to help or just want to learn more about the training, please go to

With these funds I will attend a hands-on course is designed specifically for coaches to learn about adaptive archery. This course will be led by MJ Rogers, the US Paralympic Coach and Cindy Poorman, Physical Therapist & USA Para Archery Classifier. Information covered in this tra...

Central Texas Archery is raising $1031 over the next 29 days in order to send Coach Kat to training specifically for coaching archers with disabilities.

I believe this is a vital piece of the puzzle we need to make archery available to everyone. I want to share the knowledge from this course with any and all Austin area coaches in order to make sure that any person who wants to participate in archery has a coach with information and tools that will help them be successful.

I would ask that you contribute if possible and please spread the word to anyone you know who might be interested in supporting this effort. It would really help if you could share the cause via your Facebook, Twitter, blog or by forwarding this email to your friends and family and co-workers!

Exciting news! CTA will be BACK OPEN for shooting beginning October 2nd!

We have found a temporary location in far south Austin on the property of St. John’s Presbyterian Church, 12420 Hewitt Ln, Austin, TX 78748. This is just northeast of the corner of Brodie Lane and 1626. We will be operating in a more limited capacity. We will only have 6 bale stands which means we can only accommodate 12 people at a time for open range OR classes. For this reason, you will note that open range times are only offered when there are no classes happening. We understand this is limiting. If there is enough interest in open range time, we will add more time to the schedule.

We will be offering Open Range for our members, First Time Classes and Private/Corporate Events.

We are still moving forward with plans to be on public land long term but local governments take time to finalize all the details.

Planned Hours:

Saturdays
8:00 - 10:00 AM Open Range
10:00 - 11:30 AM First Time Class
11:45 AM - 1:00 PM First Time Class

Sundays:
2:45 - 4:15 PM First Time Class
4:30 - 6:00 PM First Time Class
6:00 - 8:00 PM Open Range

Mondays:
6:00 - 8:00 - JOAD Team Practice

Wednesdays:
6:00 - 8:00 PM Open Range

The open range scheduling software we began using last year is fairly expensive and while we have been closed, we were able to pause our use of the system. We will not restart the system until we are in our final location or our business picks up significantly. Until then, please use THIS GOOGLE FORM to reserve Open Range Time. Reservations MUST be made by 8 PM the night before. Any reservation placed AFTER 8PM the NIGHT BEFORE your appointment will be invalid.

*Important Note - We know this location will NOT be ideal for all our members. Because this is a temporary location, all memberships will remain on pause until the First Day you use open range. If you do not shoot with us while we are at this location, your membership will remain paused.

JOAD Team

I am continuing the JOAD team practices at this location. I have created a sign up for practices and archers can choose to sign up for only the practices they can attend. Cost per practice is $6. I will have the bows and arrows available that the JOAD archers used over the summer. If you are interested in joining the JOAD team but have not yet done so, you are still welcome. Please reply to this email with your interest. Our JOAD team is currently open to archers ages 12-18.

REQUEST FOR HELP

We rely on our members to help and that help goes a long way to keeping archery affordable. For all the support we have received over the years, thank you.

We had a serious set back just as we were finalizing the tear down at our Howard Lane location. We were robbed and lost all our mowers, our trailer, ladders, and many tools. We were not able to recoup this loss through insurance and so we are starting back in the hole. We also had to spend significantly more money to move as we had to rent trailers.

Due to this theft and the fact that we were closed over the summer, we are in significant need of cash flow to keep CTA afloat as we rebuild.

There are 3 great ways you can financially help CTA.

Donate directly to us through Paypa at https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=9E9AJ6W8642YUl or by check when you visit for Open Range. As a 50c3 non-profit, we can send you a letter at the end of the year in which you can claim the donation on your taxes. If you are planning to give to a charitable cause this fall, we hope you will keep us in mind.
Send out our information to people in your company or others who plan corporate events. These events are great revenue generators for CTA. The same goes for private parties for birthdays, bachelor parties, or fun with friends and family when they visit from out of town. The best part is we can set up these events to happen when the range is otherwise closed allowing us to bring in revenue in addition to our regular offerings.
Tell your friends how fun archery is and encourage them to try a First Time Class. https://centraltexasarchery.org/product/first-time-class This will be our main revenue source while at our temporary location. Spreading the word helps us more than you know. Our business has already been able to introduce almost 10,000 people to archery because of word of mouth and positive online reviews.

In addition to financial help, we are looking for volunteers as well. We need help moving bales and stands onto the temporary location and setting up this range on September 28th.

If you have a trailer that you are willing to loan or have one and are willing to drive it, we would be incredibly grateful. Because we are only moving stands and bales at this time, an 8 or 10 foot trailer would be good and anything larger is a bonus and ensures we only make one trip from Elgin where items are stored to South Austin.
We could use your muscles to load and unload items. We need 2-3 people who can help load in Elgin and 2-3 people to help unload in South Austin. (You wouldn’t have to make the whole trip as we understand this is a lot of driving.)
We need help setting up the range. There are some branches that church members cannot lift. When we unload the bales and stands, we could use some hands to load these branches on a trailer that is owned by one of the church elders. He can haul it off if we can help load it up. This will clear an overgrown part of the range

First time classes are for brand new archers looking to try the sport. Archers new to archery must complete this class before enrolling in other classes. The focus is on range safety and getting new archers to the point that they can get to the shooting line and start enjoying archery quickly. Arche...

If you are looking for ways to this summer, remember to check out Archery Country, Austin Archery Club, or the tournaments listed in the link. Please reply directly to tournament directors with questions.

So far we’ve had over 100 archers attended the series, with record individual event attendance for the series (60+ archers) and record venue attendance.

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us the five and a half wonderful years we were on Howard Lane.

We will be reopening on public land as soon as possible. (But definitely not until fall because it is too darn hot in the summer!)

We do have the ability to bring an event to your location, so reach out if you are interested in a corporate, private event or adding archery to your summer camp and have the space to host us. We will bring all the equipment.

More updates on our new space as they become available!
