There are prettier ballfields.
There are bigger schools.
There are programs with larger budgets.
But I’m not sure there are many places with a bigger heart than Dodson.
This field didn’t become what it is because one person mowed the grass or one coach drew up a practice plan. It became this because an entire community decided these kids are worth investing in.
Every fundraiser you supported.
Every bag of fertilizer.
Every soil sample.
Every vote to invest tax dollars back into our little school.
Every parent who sold Cokes, worked the gate, swept a dugout, or made sure their child got to practice.
Every community member who donated their time, equipment, or expertise…
You’re standing on this field with us every time these girls take the field.
Those things may seem small on their own, but together they create opportunities that our student-athletes will remember for the rest of their lives.
More importantly, they teach lessons that can’t be found in a textbook.
Humility.
Hard work.
Empathy.
Resilience.
Pride in something bigger than yourself.
We’ve watched our athletes grow—not only on the softball field, but in the classroom as well. We’ve seen more students show up to school, work harder, and find something they want to be part of. School may not always be their favorite place to be, but for many of them, the chance to play under these lights is enough to get them through the front doors each morning.
That’s the power of community.
Dodson has always been different.
We’re a small village where everybody knows everybody. We celebrate together, grieve together, and when something needs to be done, people simply show up. We don’t do it because anyone asks for recognition. We do it because we believe in taking care of one another.
So when you look at this field—the green grass, the new concrete, the fresh dirt, the lights shining down—it isn’t just a softball field.
It’s a reflection of an entire community.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in our kids.
We hope to make you proud.
