Ours visit often but not all at the same time.

As we approach Samhain and the season of honoring those who have crossed beyond the veil, I wanted to share a beautiful tradition that holds a special place in the hearts of many animal lovers.
In Mexico, as part of the celebrations surrounding Dรญa de los Mu***os, October 27 has become a day dedicated to remembering beloved pets who have passed away. Known as ๐ฟ๐ฬ๐ ๐๐ ๐๐ช๐๐ง๐ฉ๐ค๐จ ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐จ๐๐ค๐ฉ๐๐จ, it is believed that on this day, the spirits of our departed animal companions find their way home to visit the families who loved them.
This is a more recent addition to the traditions surrounding Dรญa de los Mu***os, but the sentiment behind it is deeply touching.
Families may prepare a special ofrenda, a remembrance altar, with photographs, collars, favorite toys, treats, fresh water, and marigolds. The marigolds are believed to help guide the spirits along their journey home, while familiar belongings offer a loving welcome to those returning.
I think anyone who has ever loved an animal understands why a tradition like this touches the heart so deeply.
Our animals become part of our families. They share our homes, our routines, our happiest days, and some of our most difficult ones. They know the sound of our footsteps, the places where we like to sit, and somehow always seem to know when we need a little extra comfort.
And when their time with us comes to an end, the love remains.
We still remember the sound of their paws across the floor, the familiar weight of them curled beside us, the little habits that made each one so special. Sometimes we catch ourselves looking toward their favorite sleeping spot or expecting to see them waiting for us at the door.
Those memories stay with us because they were loved, and they loved us in return.
For those of us who honor our ancestors and beloved dead during Samhain, this tradition offers another beautiful opportunity for remembrance. Although Samhain and Dรญa de los Mu***os have their own distinct histories and customs, both recognize the importance of honoring those who have passed from our lives.
And I believe our animal companions deserve to be remembered with every bit as much love.
So, on October 27, perhaps set aside a little space for the animals you have loved and lost. Place their photograph somewhere special, light a candle safely in their memory, or simply speak their names and remember the happiness they brought into your life.
And for those who believe that the veil between worlds grows thinner during this season, perhaps take comfort in the thought of familiar paws finding their way home once again.
For every paw print that remains upon our hearts, every familiar we have loved, and every beautiful soul we wish we could hold just one more time, may October 27 be a day of love, remembrance, and a warm welcome home.
