Take note anyone who purchased a silencer over the counter on just a form 4473. Louisiana hunting law still states the Form 4 is the only valid proof of legal ownership accepted when hunting with your silencer. Don't let yourself get hemmed up...

Louisiana Law on Hunting with Sound Suppressors (R.S. 56:116.6)

Under La. R.S. 56:116.6, taking game birds, wild quadrupeds, outlaw quadrupeds, nutria, or beaver with a suppressed firearm is legal in Louisiana, provided you meet the following conditions:

Proof of Ownership: You must possess the required federal tax stamp issued by the ATF for the suppressor.

Violation Disqualification: Anyone convicted of a Class 4 or higher hunting violation is prohibited from using a sound suppressor for 5 years following the conviction.

Penalties: Illegal possession or use of a sound suppressor outside of these statutory rules is a Class 6 violation (La. R.S. 56:36).

Note: Suppressors acquired without an ATF tax stamp do not meet the legal requirements for hunting under Louisiana law.
