Please help us welcome our new Head Girls Basketball Coach, Shelby Black!

Coach Black earned her Associate’s degree from Northern Oklahoma College before graduating from Oklahoma State University in 2023 with a Bachelor of University Studies.
A highly decorated athlete, Coach Black built an impressive basketball career from high school through the collegiate level. At Frontier High School, she earned 2019 All-Area Co-Player of the Year honors and was named Native All-State. She continued her academic and athletic career at Northern Oklahoma College, earning recognition on both the NJCAA Region II Division I All-Region Second Team and All-Tournament Team. Academically, she was named a Cobell Scholar and served as a student ambassador for the Center for Sovereign Nations at OSU.
Coach Black has spent the past two years coaching junior high and high school basketball, as well as high school softball, at Newkirk Public Schools. Prior to Newkirk, she served as an assistant coach at Northern Oklahoma College. Shelby is also a proud mother to Astryd Rodriguez-Black and wife to Abraham Rodriguez Jr. She is also an enrolled member of the Otoe-Missouria Tribe of Oklahoma and a descendant of the Cheyene and Arapaho Tribe of Oklahoma, Osage Nation, Ponca Tribe, and Prairie Band Potawatomi.

We want to recognize these three young men for playing in the conference all star game tonight. They all played great and their side came out on top! Carson also won the 3 point contest and was the leading scorer with 25 points. What a way to go out as a Hornet!
