At Double Heart Ranch in Conifer, Colorado, we’ve spent 30+ years sharing our love of animals and Western horsemanship with family, friends, and neighbors. As a Western‑style ranch and riding school, we specialize in creating inclusive experiences for riders of all ages and abilities, from private trail rides and one‑on‑one lessons to group lessons and full‑day camps. Our friendly instructors help riders build confidence, connect with our gentle herd, and enjoy the therapeutic, transformative joy of horseback riding in a supportive environment. We also host one‑of‑a‑kind pony parties featuring safe pony rides, classic lawn games, petting zoo time, and fun themes, perfect for birthdays and celebrations! Beyond horses, our ranch is home to ethically bred Miniature American Shepherds through our Little Creek Mini Aus­sies program, where we prioritize animal health, temperament, and lifelong well‑being. Whether you’re learning to ride, celebrating a special day, or welcoming a new furry companion, Double Heart is a place where horses and minis aren’t just animals, they’re teachers, guides, and friends.

We don’t normally make posts when we experience a loss here at the ranch, but today our hearts are heavy, and we need to honor a very special member of the ranch.

Sometime in the night last night, we lost Giant, our resident mini horse.
For 22 years, Giant has been loved by so many. When he first came to the ranch at just 6 years old, he was wound up, scared, and unsure of the world. But CC took him in, gave him a safe place to land, and allowed him the time and love he needed to become his absolute best self.

In his younger days, this little guy was all black and full of incredible s***k. He had so much fire that we always used to say, "If you are old enough to hang on to him, you are too old and big to ride him!"

Over the last few years, Giant gracefully accepted semi-retirement. He softened, allowing a select few lucky kiddos the privilege of riding him. Like all of us, he weathered with time, with some of his coat turning a beautiful, frosty white towards the end.

We don’t have a lot of words today, and we are all choked up over saying goodbye to such a big, mighty horse in such a tiny package. He may have been miniature in stature, but he leaves behind a truly giant-sized hole in all of our hearts.

Rest easy, Giant. You are so incredibly loved.
