KIPP vs. Pinnacle:

When these teams last met, KIPP came up short by just three points in a heart breaking playoff loss. The Huskies walked into Pinnacle’s gym calm, focused and with a serious axe to grind. The B team took the floor first. Behind the steady hand of Brian Tran at the point, the Huskies slowly built up a double-digit lead by halftime and never allowed Pinnacle to get back within striking distance. Final score: KSPA 23, Pinnacle 15

Tran led all scorers with 8 points to go along with 2 assists and 2 steals. Francisco Romero and Jose Landa combined for 18 rebounds while Leonel Morales played smart, tough nosed basketball and made solid decisions on both sides of the ball. Morales ended the game with 3 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals.

Next, the Husky A team took the court. This team features a veteran core of 8th graders who put in a tremendous amount of work in the off season – from Spring basketball tournaments to summer and fall clinics, these young men have logged many hours preparing for this season – and it showed! The huskies showed patience on offense and relentless tenacity on defense. The Huskies laid a beating on Pinnacle rallying to a final score of 41 – 27.

Jason Franco set the pace for the game ending the night with 21 points, 3 assists and 4 steals. Daniel Hernandez was the led all rebounders with 11, and Jonathan Cosme contributed 7 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals to the winning effort.

Next up the Huskies face a tough Bennett team at home on Tuesday, November 3rd. We’d love to see you out there supporting the team! Go Huskies.

Power to Play Spring Championships, Game 3: Huskies vs. Crush

After watching Crush demolish the Colorado Legends - the team that defeated us earlier in the day - we knew we would have our work cut out for us. The first 10 minutes amounted to a low-scoring slugfest, but about halfway through the first half, our full-court press and our defensive harassment began to wear down our opponent. In the second half, we managed to build upon our lead and finish with an impressive 17 point victory! Final score: Huskies 43 - Crush 26. It was our inside play that delivered this victory: Nathan Freyta finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds and 2 blocks. and Julian Olvera added 6 points and 7 rebounds.

And a special shout-out goes to Oscar Padilla who added a special infusion of energy after running 6.5 miles in the Colfax Marathon Relay earlier in the day! Very impressive!

Our decisive victories against FREEZE and Crush were enough to deliver the Championship - including the Golden Basketball trophy - to the KSPA Huskies!

Power to Play Spring Championships, Game 2: Huskies vs. FREEZE, Fort Collins.

The Huskies are not known for jump shooting, but you would never know that by watching this game. Jason Franco hit 4 three pointers and finished with 18 points, Johnny Cosme added 2 more to finish with 10, and we got contributions from every single player en route to a 46-18 drubbing of the FREEZE! Adrian Avila added 4 points and 5 steals and was the defensive player of the game. Julian Olvera added 6 points and 8 rebounds. When we play relentless defense, attack the glass and share the basketball, good things happen! Nice work, boys.

Power to Play Spring Championships, Game 1: Huskies vs. Colorado Legends:

From the opening tip, we played our brand of basketball - forcing steals, making baskets off turnovers and in transition, and locking down the defensive glass. In the second half, the scrappy legends managed to claw their way back into the game and force overtime. Down 3 points and with 5 seconds on the clock, the Huskies managed to get the ball into Arath's hands. Arath got a good clean look at a three point shot, and the ball just rimmed out. Final score: Legends 46 - Huskies 43. Top performers: Jason Franco 14 points, 4 steals, 5 assists. Nathan Freyta: 13 points, 4 steals, 8 rebounds, 2 assists.

Power to Play, Game 2 vs. Colorado Thunder Black:

We faced adversity early on, but managed to straighten things out midway through the first half. Once again, it was our defensive pressure that got us back into the game. We ended the first half on a dominant run, and closed out the game playing solid fundamental basketball, building up to a 15 point victory. Jason Franco led the way with 20 points and 7 assists, Edward Velarde scored 10 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished 7 assists. Final score: Huskies 44, Colorado Thunder Black 29.

Power to Play Tournament, Game 1 vs. Colorado Thunder Orange:

The Huskies thoroughly dominated this opponent rushing out to an early lead and never looking back. We played all around aggressive, stifling, team defense. Jason Franco led all scorers with 14 points and 4 steals and Nathan Freyta scored 5 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Final score: Huskies 34, Colorado Thunder Orange 8.
