Senior Spotlight: Desmond Brown #1

For the past 14 years, Desmond Brown has been a steady presence on the field, holding it down as a middle infielder and representing everything it means to stay committed to the game. Wearing #1, he’s built his career on resilience, growth, and learning how to handle both the highs and lows that baseball throws your way.

One of Desmond’s favorite memories came in a clutch moment—when the team battled back in the IR game, showing the grit and fight that defined their season. That same mindset helped him overcome his biggest challenge: getting out of his own head. By focusing on the positives and trusting his ability, he turned adversity into progress.

Desmond credits Coach Jason as someone who’s had a major impact on his journey, helping shape not just the player, but the person he’s become. His simple pregame routine—grabbing a snack before first pitch—kept him grounded and ready to compete.

Baseball has taught Desmond that failure and success go hand in hand, and it’s how you respond that defines you. Off the field, he’ll miss the moments that don’t show up in the box score—laughing with teammates after games and practices, building bonds that last far beyond the season.

After graduation, Desmond plans to enter the workforce, carrying with him the lessons the game has taught him. His advice to younger players is simple but powerful: have confidence in yourself—it plays a big part.

He describes his senior season as “memorable,” and gives a heartfelt shoutout to his mom and dad for their unwavering support along the way.

His final message says it all:
“This year has had many ups and downs, but I wouldn’t have wanted to do it with any other group of guys.”

Senior Spotlight: Ayden McCauley #3

For the past 14 years, Ayden McCauley has brought passion, grit, and consistency to the game he loves. A dynamic presence in center field and on the mound, Ayden has been the kind of player his team could rely on—steady, focused, and always ready for the moment.

One of his favorite memories came when his team took down IR in the playoffs—a moment that captured everything he values about the game: competition, brotherhood, and rising to the occasion. But like any seasoned player, Ayden knows baseball isn’t just about the highs. He’s faced the mental challenges that come with the sport, learning to keep a short memory and move forward no matter the outcome—an approach that’s shaped both his game and his character.

Off the field, Ayden credits his biggest supporter—his mom—for being his foundation through it all. Whether it’s his consistent pre-game ritual of wearing his sliding shorts or locking in with “Rooms” by NBA YoungBoy, he brings his own style and mindset every time he steps onto the field.

A fan of the Orioles and Manny Machado, Ayden models his game after players who play with confidence and edge. And when the final out is recorded, you can probably find him celebrating with some Bdubs—keeping things simple and well-earned.

Baseball has taught Ayden one of life’s most important lessons: failure is inevitable, but your response defines you. That mindset has helped him grow into not just a better player, but a stronger person.

As he looks ahead to college, Ayden leaves behind a legacy built on brotherhood, resilience, and love for the game. What he’ll miss most isn’t just the competition—it’s the bonds with his teammates and the guidance of his coaches.

His message to the next generation is clear: cherish every moment, because it goes fast. Build strong relationships, because that’s what wins in the end.

One word to define his senior season: Unfinished.

And to his teammates and coaches:
“I love every single one of y’all. I wouldn’t want to do it with anybody else.”

Senior Spotlight: Jason Smullen #9

A true competitor and leader on and off the field, Jason Smullen has dedicated 12 years to the game of baseball, making his mark as both an infielder and pitcher. From a young freshman getting the unforgettable opportunity to play at Blue Rocks Stadium during the playoffs, to a seasoned senior, Jason’s journey has been defined by growth, resilience, and brotherhood.

Throughout his career, Jason faced one of the toughest challenges in the game—getting out of his own head after mistakes. He learned to overcome it by leaning on the people who have always supported him, turning those moments into fuel rather than frustration. That mindset, playing with a chip on his shoulder while keeping his composure, became a defining part of who he is as a player.

Jason credits much of his development to the impact of Coach Kippy, Coach Jason, Coach Torbert, and Coach Tim Peake, along with the unwavering support of his family. Whether it was locking in with his unique pregame routine or stepping onto the field ready to compete, he brought intensity and passion every single day.

Off the field, it’s the little things he’ll miss most—especially the bus rides with his teammates, the laughs, and the bond built over countless practices and games. For Jason, this season may not have gone exactly as planned, but the experience of battling alongside his brothers made it all worth it.

Next up, Jason will continue to compete on the baseball field as he attends Shenandoah University to study business. Jason takes some of the lessons already learned into the next chapter of his baseball career and his life.

Advice to the next generation: Be open, get your name out there, and build relationships—you never know where the game can take you.

Final Word:
“This season didn’t go the way we expected, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Being on the field Monday through Saturday with this group of guys—my brothers—is something I’ll carry with me forever.”

Senior Spotlight: Kane Nibblett #27

For the past 14 years, Kane Nibblett has lived the game of baseball, growing into a reliable Corner infielder and right-handed pitcher who brings both grit and presence every time he steps on the field. From early days on the diamond to his final varsity season, Kane’s journey has been defined by growth, resilience, and brotherhood.

One of his favorite memories came during his sophomore year, when his team took down Indian River in the playoffs—a moment that captured everything he loves about the game: competition, teamwork, and rising to the occasion. Like any athlete, Kane faced challenges along the way, with the biggest being learning to stay out of his own head. His solution? Keep it simple—focus on the next pitch, the next at-bat, and never let one moment define the game.

Kane credits much of his development to the coaches who guided him, especially Coach Jason, Coach Kip, and Coach Torbert. Their belief in him helped shape not only the player he became, but the man he’s growing into. That mindset shows in his pregame routine too—keeping it consistent, right down to wearing the same shorts before every game.

A fan of the Orioles and Gunnar Henderson, Kane sets the tone with “Skrilla” by Kodak Black as his walk-up song, bringing energy every time he steps into the box. After the game, you’ll probably find him celebrating with some Plaza Tapatia ACP—well earned.

Baseball has given Kane confidence beyond the field, teaching him that failure isn’t the end—it’s part of the process. It’s a lesson he carries into life, knowing that every setback is an opportunity to grow.

As his high school career comes to a close, what Kane will miss most is the bond with his teammates—guys he’s played alongside since he was 8 years old. That brotherhood, built over years of shared moments, wins, and lessons, is something he knows can’t be replaced.

Next up, Kane plans to attend Del Tech Community College to study Secondary Math Education, continuing to build a future where he can impact others the same way his mentors impacted him.

His message to younger players is simple but powerful: “Take it all in—it really flies by. Cherish every moment with your best friends and make the most of it.”

Describing his senior season as memorable, Kane gives a heartfelt shoutout to his biggest supporters—his parents, who rarely missed a game, and Coach Jason, who has been by his side since he was 8 years old and became like a second father.

To his teammates and coaches, Kane leaves this message:
“Thank you fellas for showing me this is more than a team—it’s a family and a brotherhood. These memories are something I’ll always cherish. And to the coaches, thank you for believing in me, being there when I needed it, and helping me grow as a player and a man.”

Kane Nibblett’s legacy isn’t just in the stats—it’s in the relationships, the mindset, and the impact he leaves behind.

Colton Gwaltney | #25
DH / First Base

For the past 14 years, Colton Gwaltney has been a steady presence on the field, bringing grit, growth, and heart to every inning. A dedicated hitter and reliable first baseman, Colton’s journey hasn’t always come easy—but that’s exactly what defines him. After facing the challenge of not starting, he responded the only way he knows how: by outworking everyone and earning his spot through persistence and determination.

One of his most unforgettable moments came early on—launching a walk-off, wall-clearing home run to win the district championship with Fruitland Little League. It was a glimpse of the clutch player he would continue to become.

Colton credits his dad as his biggest influence, shaping not only his game but his mindset. That mindset shows up in everything he does—from sticking to his simple pregame routine of wearing the same fit, to staying mentally grounded with the understanding that failure is just part of baseball.

An Baltimore Orioles fan who looks up to Adley Rutschman, Colton brings that same work ethic and toughness to Delmar. After games, you’ll likely find him celebrating with a meal from Plaza Tapatia—a well-earned reward after leaving it all on the field.

Baseball has taught Colton that nothing is given—everything is earned through effort and resilience. More than anything, he’ll miss the brotherhood: the laughs, the bus rides, and the time spent with teammates before and after games.

After graduation, Colton plans to attend Salisbury University to study Pre-Physical Therapy, continuing to build a future grounded in discipline and care for others.

His advice to younger players is simple but real: don’t overthink it—this game comes with failure, and learning how to handle it is what makes you better.

One word to describe his senior season: Sentimental.

Shoutout to all of the Delmar coaches for their guidance and support throughout the years.

Final message:
“I’m going to miss playing the game I love with y’all—the same guys I grew up with.”
