I am so sorry for the late notice but yes, HOSS will be participating in the Lampasas Spring Ho parade again this year. It is at 10 AM Saturday morning, July 12, tomorrow morning!!!
You may think gosh, I don’t want to do that with such short notice, but let me tell you that, especially if this might be your first parade, it is absolutely, definitely, worth doing. Instead of mixing the horses in amongst the other entries of the parade, all of the horse groups will be together at the end of the parade. (No group needs to have a p**per scooper. Nobody gets their knickers in a twist over horse p**p on the pavement! There is a gigantic meadow in the middle of town where we can pull our trailers right onto it and leisurely dress and decorate your horse while you wait for the 10 AM start time. You can pull your horses to the edge of the meadow and allow them to watch all of the Parade entries passing by. It’s an enlightening thing for the horses to be able to see that all this noise and hoopla can pass in front of them and it is no danger to them at all. It is a great way to introduce your horse to the beautiful world of parading.
Again, I am so very sorry for the late notice. Life has been rather hectic this year, but I hope that you can reach deep in your energy reserves, pull together some decorations for your horse and come on out and join us. There is a theme for the parade, and I forget exactly what it is this year, but there isn’t really a color scheme so any color that you want to add to yourself and your horse will be perfectly fine. And if you don’t have time or the inclination to decorate your horse, that too is perfectly fine.
On another note, if you have a young horse that isn’t even under saddle or is a foal, la passes will allow you to pony and unwritten Horse. I have done that a couple times and it’s really quite wonderful to watch your young horse. Take a gander at everything that’s going on around them. It’s a great way to break in a new or young Horse to a world that is quite magical.
As with any Parade, by the time you get to the end of it, you will realize that your cheeks, not your butt cheeks, but your face cheeks, actually ache from smiling so long and so hard. One of the things that amazed me the most when I began Parading, was that the audience truly likes to engage with you. And it is in your best interest too to fervently desire to engage with them. Look in their eyes wave at them and give the greeting of the day. It might be thank you for your service on Veterans Day or happy Fourth of July or merry Christmas, but smile, big, do your best parade wave, and engage with the people. You will find it totally rewarding and a tremendous amount of fun.
I hope you can come out and join us. Later today, I will post specifics about where that meadow is that you will bring your horse and trailer. Hope to see you tomorrow. Happy parade.
