Gardner Hard Luck Horse Farm showed up with her minis, doing an impressive 4 abreast harness configuration. She and I were the only participants for HOSS, which kept it small due to the equine virus going around. There was one other horse entry, but all of us have not had exposure to the virus.

It was a fantastic first parade for my horse BarBee and I, and the participants and spectators were awesome!

Friends, the community of West has invited us to participate in another parade this summer. I hear tell that it is a whopping good fun time.

There is no charge to participate in the parade, and they will also give you a ticket to attend the rodeo!

the horses will be presented at the back of the Parade so there is no need to worry about having a p**per scooper! Come on down to West and join the group. We won’t specifically be riding under the name of HOSS. Just come on down and join the presentation of horseback riders!

The parade starts at 10 AM, but they do ask that we try to get there early (eight thirtyish would be great, but certainly be ready by 9:30). Decorate your horse if you want to.

Lampasas Spring Ho Parade Route is in green.

The horse group staging area is in the meadow at the intersection of E. North Ave & Campbell Street. (Marked by the lower of the two red rectangles.)

Get yourself there and then all you have to do is follow the rest of the horses.

We usually try to park toward the trees where we can have some shade for the horses.
Parade starts at 10am so you ought to try to get there by around 9ish.

I am so sorry for the late notice but yes, HOSS will be participating in the Lampasas Spring Ho parade again this year. It is at 10 AM Saturday morning, July 12, tomorrow morning!!!
You may think gosh, I don’t want to do that with such short notice, but let me tell you that, especially if this might be your first parade, it is absolutely, definitely, worth doing. Instead of mixing the horses in amongst the other entries of the parade, all of the horse groups will be together at the end of the parade. (No group needs to have a p**per scooper. Nobody gets their knickers in a twist over horse p**p on the pavement! There is a gigantic meadow in the middle of town where we can pull our trailers right onto it and leisurely dress and decorate your horse while you wait for the 10 AM start time. You can pull your horses to the edge of the meadow and allow them to watch all of the Parade entries passing by. It’s an enlightening thing for the horses to be able to see that all this noise and hoopla can pass in front of them and it is no danger to them at all. It is a great way to introduce your horse to the beautiful world of parading.

Again, I am so very sorry for the late notice. Life has been rather hectic this year, but I hope that you can reach deep in your energy reserves, pull together some decorations for your horse and come on out and join us. There is a theme for the parade, and I forget exactly what it is this year, but there isn’t really a color scheme so any color that you want to add to yourself and your horse will be perfectly fine. And if you don’t have time or the inclination to decorate your horse, that too is perfectly fine.

On another note, if you have a young horse that isn’t even under saddle or is a foal, la passes will allow you to pony and unwritten Horse. I have done that a couple times and it’s really quite wonderful to watch your young horse. Take a gander at everything that’s going on around them. It’s a great way to break in a new or young Horse to a world that is quite magical.

As with any Parade, by the time you get to the end of it, you will realize that your cheeks, not your butt cheeks, but your face cheeks, actually ache from smiling so long and so hard. One of the things that amazed me the most when I began Parading, was that the audience truly likes to engage with you. And it is in your best interest too to fervently desire to engage with them. Look in their eyes wave at them and give the greeting of the day. It might be thank you for your service on Veterans Day or happy Fourth of July or merry Christmas, but smile, big, do your best parade wave, and engage with the people. You will find it totally rewarding and a tremendous amount of fun.

I hope you can come out and join us. Later today, I will post specifics about where that meadow is that you will bring your horse and trailer. Hope to see you tomorrow. Happy parade.

Marcia

Everyone, after discussion the roads through the parade route will be very slippery. There is chance of rain all day today and no improvement. If your horses have shoes they are likely to slip and fall on the wet roads. We will still be bringing two vehicles to have an entry in the parade, but if you do not want to bring a horse that is totally understandable.

Good morning! The grass will be very wet so if you do not want to pull your truck and trailer on the grass, we can use the parking lot of Lord Hall to stage.

Please remember to clean up after your horses! Do not leave hay or manure in the staging areas!

It's parade time!!!!

Announcement for the Belton 4th of July parade held on Friday, July 4th.
Parade STARTS at 9am!
Coggins test check is between 7-8am! Horses that are not checked will not be allowed to ride in the event! Parade officials will be checking coggins and will issue a tag that is worn on the bridle, in past years I unbuckled my cheek piece and put the tag through that leather so it was easy to take off later. Equine staging is on UMHB campus, next to the railroad tracks and at the intersection of College St and Crusader Way.
The roads will CLOSE at 8am! You must be with your equine at the staging area before then!

We will have TWO groups this year, one group with HOSS, all ages and all peoples. The second group will be women/girls who want to ride in vintage attire under the "Legacy of the Cowgirl" group. You can choose which group you ride in the day of, both are already signed up!

Also, we need at least 4 people who can follow the horse groups to help clean up behind the horses. This can be voluntary or we will pay you! We always have trouble finding people to help clean, this is mandatory from the parade officials. If we cannot abide we cannot participate! Equine groups in parades are on the decline, at the meeting tonight it was myself and only one other horse group. So sad! Help us to keep participating in these parades and spreading the joy horses bring people!
