March is Golf Cart and Low-Speed Vehicle (LSV) Safety Month!
Our DeBary golf cart owners love taking advantage of the DeBary Golf Cart Ordinance and the freedom of travel it allows within our City, however, there has been increasing concern with safety issues and questions regarding golf cart use vs. low-speed vehicle use. Golf Carts are motor vehicles that are not capable of exceeding 20 mph and are required to be permitted through the City to legally drive on City roads. A Low-Speed Vehicle’s top speed is between 20-25mph and is registered through a Florida State Motor Vehicle Service Center. We want you to have an incredible golf cart or LSV experience and avoid breaking laws, injuring people, or damaging property
We will be posting throughout the month to highlight some common questions regarding golf carts and LSVs. ALWAYS Remember:
• Pedestrians have the right-of-way; share the roads and sidewalks accordingly
• All LSVs and Golf carts have a specific number of seats – you cannot exceed the limit of passengers. Passengers may NOT sit on laps or squeeze in between seats. Lap-sitting, especially for young children, is extremely dangerous and can result in children falling out of carts along the road!
• Anyone operating a golf cart or LSV must be at least 16 years old and have a valid driver’s license in their immediate possession.
